Baddabing,

I reinstalled your skin and the search functions work now, Thanks
I think the skin is very good and offers plenty of flexability.
Thanks for your contribution

Sage TV Client

Postby nspindel on Wed Feb 16, 2005 11:49 pm

Hello Baddabing - I have to say, I love your skin. Even better, my wife loves it!!!!

One question I have - do you know what changes I need to make in order to have the PVR hooks connect to the SageTVClient. The way I have Sage set up, the machine running SageTV.exe is my server, which just captures and stores the tv mpegs. My HTPC just runs the Sage client, which is the exact same front-end, except it is only functional when a server is used.

Thanks,
Neil

Hit F2 to open SetUp.

Go to the EVENTS tab

Expand the sagetv folder

Find the entry below:

Change the FILE and WORKING DIRECTORY entries of the to that of your Sage Client.

Just FYI, I know that the change above will launch the client but I have not tested the Sage Client so I don't know if it accepts the same SEND MESSAGE commands that I use to control the Sage Host. - let me know if the pushbuttons in HeavyMetal also control the Sage Client

Hmmm, I seemed to have screwed something up while I was fiddling around. Your instructions were bang on, but I figured that part out after I posted. But the PVR button somehow got disconnected from navigating to the control screen. The button does launch the Sage Client, though, which is really all I want to do anyway. I'm fine with controlling Sage from inside Sage, all I really want is a toggle.

I have to say, man, that you've done some fine work here. I've got a big flac library, hundreds of dvds, and Sage. To finally have something that ties it all together as well as this is just fantastic. Hats off to XLobby and to your skin. To be sure, you've done a fine job with this type of product if my wife and 9 year old son love it, too!!!

I have found, though, what I believe are a couple of bugs in the 16x9 version of the skin. I'm running the normal version on a couple of machines, these aren't issues there, it's only the 16x9 on my HTPC that's having the problem:

1) When movies that are in a folder structure like:

\Genre\Title\Video_TS\video_ts.ifo

import, there's a default icon for each genre, then inside are all the movies. This works in 16x9, except there is no title on the default icon with the label of the genre. So I have to click into each one to figure out what genre it is.

2) News - the arrow buttons to scroll around the news pages, when a certain topic has more than one page, don't work. So I can only read the stories from the first page.

Like I said, these are working fine in the normal version, it's just the widescreen that doesn't work.

Thanks again!

nspindel,
Ok, lets see if we can figure it out. The way buttons work in Xlobby is you assign an event to them. An event is simply one or more commands that you want Xlobby to execute when a button or object is clicked.

The PVR button on the menu screen has an event associated with it. With Xlobby sitting at the menu screen, press PrtScr+Pause to bring up the skin editor. Click on the button labeled PVR to set focus - a dashed line will appear arond the button. In the SkinEditor find and click on the tab labeled EVENT. At the top of there is an entry called CLICK EVENT - this is what is executed when the objected receives a mouse click. The default event for the PVR button is MENU:TV

Close the Skin Editor and press F2 to open the Setup window. Click on the EVENTS tab. Find the MENU folder and expand it. Find the TV event and expand it.

It contains 5 commands:

button hide - this command was to handle an old bug of menu images not working right - you can leave it or delete it - doens't hurt anything

goto screen - tells xlobby to go to the TV screen

execute file - tells xlobby to start the sage client

wait - gives Sage time to start up

execute file - an executable that sets focus back to the Sage screen

Part of your problem is my fault, it had been so long since I messed with the Sage stuff that I forgot that there were two events that start Sage. I only gave you one of them. The execute file in this event needs the path changed to the Sage client exe as well, and its the command that needs to be associated with the PVR button in the menu screen. That should set you right in both launching Sage and opening the TV screen.

Thanks for the heads up on the bugs in the 16:9. I'm in the process of updating it so I will make sure I check those two issues out.

Glad you like the skin and I'm happy your wife and kids are enjoying it as well. These are the same things that got me hooked on XL as well - making the entertainment equipment in my home easy easy for my family to use.
Cheers,
-baddabing

Hi - Thanks for the tips, I'll look into it. I think what I did was I reset the event myself, so that it would just toggle to the client. I don't know, I fiddled with so many things, I don't remember how it started out :) I don't know that I'll set it back, because I like the toggle....

I saw you posted a new version - looks like this will be a late night!!!

One other little glitch -

In the 16x9 version, there doesn't seem to be a button in the radio section that gets you back to the top level. So if I click into internet radio, then click on classical, I have no way to browse back up and look at the rock stations without quiting XLobby and coming back in.

I saw you fixed in V3 - any way to put a similar button in the 16x9 of V2 until a widescreen V10, or even better a widescreen HeavyMetal X, is ready?

Clicking on the 'list by genre' button does what you ask - does it not work on your skin?

Well, that's just it. The 'list by genre' button seems to be missing from the internet radio screen in the 16x9 version......
