Problem with music Cover Art

Postby davdev on Mon Mar 27, 2006 5:29 pm

Hi All

I am having a problem getting all of my cover art to import.

I am using the default skin and I have used Music Match to Rip and tag all of my music files. Every single file has an associated Cover in Musicmatch. In Xlobby, I would say 90% imported in just fine, but about 10% are showing up without any cover art at all. Any idea what could cause this?

I can add the cover art by going into the database editor but this is kind of a pain, and I am not sure it will hold if I need to delete and re-import the database.

This is the last step I need to get this working as I wish, along with a wierd thing with cetain albums displaying as "Various Artists", even though they are not. Anyone have any idea about what is going on.

Oh, and I have deleted the database and then re-imported and it still did not update.

Is the cover art, for those albums not displaying it, embedded in the mp3's or as a seperate image in the album folder? Not sure if XL can read an embedded image ???????????? Someone tell me otherwise!!

As for the various artists, are you sure that all the tracks in the album have the same artist name in the tags? I don't use MusicMatch but I do run all my albums through The Godfather which is a supert free Tag edior. If you have even 1 track in an album folder that has a different artist name it can cause XL to treat as Various Artists - look for subtle differences in spelling, punctuation, spaces etc

Not sure if XL can read an embedded image

yes it can, the coverart location for an album like that will start id3v2: if its using the id3 cover art

defrag is right about various artists....your mp3 tags probably have different artist names hence various artists.

I'm not sure why your missing 10% but when you save a cover art though the skin or database editor it will save a jpg file into that album directory...so if you do delete your database it will find that coverart you downloaded on a reimport or refresh.

The file names all have exactly the same artist name. Music Match has a feature where you can select the artist once and apply it to all the files and then I rename the files by artist name - album - trackname

The tags are mostly embedded into the MP3's and not saved in folders.

if you open up the database editor, and select the album that is comming up as "various" you will see the tracks...go through each one and look at the artist field for each track...do they all match?

so after further review, it was a problem with different artist names.

That solves that, but I still can't figure out why some album art appears and others do not

I only have a very small number of the actual art files saved in folders, most of them come from the tags, but not all the tags are working
