What are the minimum system requirements for running Xlobby?

Thank you

Good question, no real answer available. XLobby will run on many computers. I'm using (I think) a 1.5 gHz processor (AMD) with 128 or 256 MB.
I'm using it for cd, radio and internet. It runs smooth, sometimes the change between 2 pages with cd's takes a second (seems short, but it is just to long).
Don't know what other people use.

I used to run it on an 850 duron. It ran OK. The core runs OK, but you have to make sure your graphics are not to big.

IE If you got your album covers from buy.com, it should be OK, but if you got them from cdcovers.cc then they are huge and xlobby has to display like 10 of them at the same time. Very slow.

I would like to be able to run as a client on an older laptop (pentium) Windows 98se and 48mb ram. The price of it will be very good. Does anyone know of running it on such an older machine?

I run mine on a PIII 733MHz laptop. It takes an age to start (is that always true of xlobby?), but is fast enough once up and running.

On my Dell Gx270 3Ghz it starts up much more quickly. but it's still relativly slow. But once you start it and exit, next time you run it, it loads much, much faster - probably remains in cache or .NET runtimes are already loaded...

How long to startup?

Postby mjensen2k on Fri Sep 10, 2004 4:17 am

I'm new, trying to evaluate xlobby, mainlobby, etc. The enthusiasm here has me excited, but am having trouble getting things running. I just registered to start asking questions.

I'm trying to bring this up on my PIII 850 with 256MB. A little skimpy I know but hey it's paid for. I just want to be able to bring it up to get a feel for how well the software works, etc.

I put on .NET 1.1 with sp1, winamp, zoomplayer, PowerDVD and the latest xlobby download. Version is 1.0.1703.26159.

I'm following the beginners guide created by Jowaldo. Unfortunately the first step is start xlobby2.exe, after it loads, press F2 for setup screen.

Well, all I have is a blank screen. xlobby2.exe is running, taking about 20MB memory (give or take) and doing nothing. F2 doesn't do anything. It's unresponsive. I have to kill it from task manager.

Am I short on memory or something? Please let me know if this should be addressed in another thread. I thought it was generally on topic as my resources are skimpy.

edit: I just downloaded the latest zip... I see mention of downloading previous and then 'upgrading'. Is the latest .zip a fully self contained directory structure? I should be able to run xlobby2.exe from that directory right?

Well, to get xlobby running you need the xlobby2.exe file and the directory's which contain database and skin information. As the exe file is controlling everything, this file gets updated by Steve. However, the exe file alone will not do anything. So here is what you have to do:
- Install xlobby using the verion from the download page
- You may download the latest zip and replace the exe file in your xlobby folder with the new exe in the downloaded zip file.

Ok that's for the upgrade. But I don''t think that's the problem, the origal download should have run. Which windows version are you using ? (I'm using 98SE and I think it was as low as you could go).

I downloaded the latest zip file. It contains full directory structure, though there is little in some of the dirs. In example under databases there is a templates directory with a handleful of .xml files.

Skins has /default/resources but they are empty.

Spiders has a handful of .txt files.

So it's not completely bare, but it's unclear what is required. Perhaps there is no skin so there is nothing to display. Probably that simple.

I'm running XP on a PIII 850 notebook.

Ok, back to the start. Your problem is that XLobby will not run.
Lets stick with the original download (from the download page) this one should run from it's directory. The update file only improves the program.
Could you do a fresh download and try again?
What OS are you using?

Will do. I'm running XP, BTW.

As for 'not running', the program launches, brings up a blank screen and F2 does nothing for me, as described in the 'how to' document. I'm still just trying to get the initial setup.

I'll report back tonight. I've spent the last few days with MainLobby eval... Evil words in this forum I'm sure.

I have Pre14 up and running. I did a quick import of a cd, was able to check my local weather and viewed a couple jpgs I had sitting around. So the basics are up and running.

I'll do some searching regarding upgradig procedures.
