Question about resolution?

Postby homepc on Fri Jan 11, 2008 5:55 pm

I ssume most us use a computer to view movies using Xl. My question is, what is the relationship between the resolution I set my computer too and the resolution the movie plays at? AS an example, if my computer screen is set to 800 x 600, and then I play a movie on my hard drive, does it also play in 800 x 600? or does it switch to a higher resolution? And does this mean then that I would have to have my computer resolution to 1920 X 1080 for the movies to play in a high resolution?

thanks

yes. You would need to change your resolution of your video card driver. The content resolution does not change the output of your video card.
You could however have different resolutions for multiple monitors.

yes, my htpc runs a small LCD screen at 1024x768 (monitor 1) for xLobby and sends 1280x720 to the TV (monitor 2) where the movies show

ok, great...thanks...

Although, that does make viewing the computer desktop very hard if you are only using the TV. Way too small!!

But I guess I cant have everything!!

thanks

Well. yes, at 55" no problem! :-) Since I use normal TV, and most of the DVDs and AVIs are at lesser resolution than 800x??? I have 800x600 for XLobby (no need to go to 1024x768, since it is unreadable on TV).
