Staggered Lighting Control - Is this possible?

Postby arkania on Wed Feb 02, 2005 5:37 pm

Folks,

Currently I have xlobby setup to dim off the lights when I launch a movie. It first launches a trailer, then a dolby/dts trailer, then the main feature. I would love to be able to do the following when I launch a movie:

1. Dim lights to 50% when the trailers come up.
2. Dim lights to off when the feature starts.
3. Bring lights back up when the feature finishes.

Can this be accomplished in Xlobby? I'm currently using X10 to control my lightning (with girder) and it works well, but I would love to have a little more control over it.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!!!

How are you having it run the two trailers then the movie right now?

Are you doing it with three separate events? Or are you using that premovie manager program?

Jowaldo,

I'm using the method described in the help section (Trailer setup using Xlobby only).

I haven't tried the premovie manager program...would this program be able to do what I want?

Thanks,

Gary.

Actually I was asking if you use premoviemanager, because then I wouldn't know a way to do it.

You just need to tweak your events...

First you probably have a "start" event set to play the trailer.. just put a dim 50% command in before the play trailer command in that event.

Then it might be a bit tricky to trigger a lights off command after the trailer finishes, but before the movie starts.. I'd have to think about that one.

Then when the movie is done you could have a end event, with a command to turn the lights back on.

If you need help configuring the events, just let me know.

I've got it partially working, however, it seems to jump right to the second light control command before the movie starts (even though it's just the trailer still playing). Not sure if there is a way to stop that or not...

Yeah thats the problem I was talking about... xlobby will just run all three commands in a row... I don't know of a way to tell it when the trailer is done... Too bad what actually plays the movie couldn't be a event. Maybe that could be a feature request....

It's not a huge deal, really just a nice feature for effect. I don't know if many people would need a feature like that or not. :)

You have probably given up by now or found a solution, but I know that premoviemanager does have built in support for x10 and girder, I have only played with it a little bit and don't currently have any of my old x10 stuff set up but I know that it is part of the program, maybe playing with this will give you the desired effect.

GoodLuck

Actually Brian, haven't really looked into any furthur after my previous posts.
I still have yet to look at premovie manager, but will probably make some time in the near future. I'll let you know if it works.

Thanks.

Gary.
