Xlobby speed - new motherboard needed??? Help!

Postby northern_munki on Tue May 31, 2005 1:39 pm

Hi,

How can I make my Xlobby music thumbnail pages scroll faster?

I realise there are 10 or so thumbnails to display on each page as i scroll but it is not as snappy as i would like.

The machine is a Via ME6000 with Win2k. 7200 rpm disk and 512M memory. Will faster CPU do the trick or will upgrading not help much?

What sort of CPU/mothboard would anyone recomend i replace my VIA with? Id like quiet running with future PVR capability, on-board graphics would free up my two PCI slots for capture or tuner cards.

Thanks

Try these two options:

1) Decrease the quality of the covert art. If you get a lot of your cover art from Amazon the files can be rather large and of high quality, most are 500x500 jpeg's. Try reducing the jpeg quality and size in your favorite photo editor. The downside is your thumbs don't look as good.

2) Using the skin editor in Xlobby the number of thumbnails that display at once can be changed. So for example if 10 display now you can set it to display 8 or 6, this may help. The downside to this option is that you'd have to scroll through more thumbnails to get through your music collection. I forgot how to do this off the top of my head but ask around I'm sure a skin engineer will be able to help you.
