FMA, anyone?

FMA, anyone?

Postby dalanik on Tue Aug 09, 2005 11:59 am

Has anyone encountered FMA application?

http://fma.sourceforge.net/

It is a mobile phone program that has all the connectivity/synchronisation functions for PC and mobile phones via bluetooth (or Ir), plus scripting engine which allows controlling the PC via mobile phone.

There already are scripts which allow control of winamp and zoom player...

And it works great with i.e. Sony Ericson T630...

Anyone willing to make a script for XLobby? :-)

Nobody replied to this one allright :-( Which didn't stop me from continuing to improve my script :-)

So for the past couple of years, I had my HTPC alert me whenever there was an SMS or, if there is incoming (or outgoing) call, it would display caller info on screen, mute the volume, or if I watched the movie in ZOOM, pause the movie and display caller info on screen.

Well, since i'm on holidays because of catholic christmas, and for me, being orthodox, is "just another day" :-) I had nothing to do. So I decided to improve the script, by adding HTPC control to it.

The new version of VisualGSM script now has a menu in the "accessories" of the mobile phone and can turn monitor on/off, hybernate the pc or be used to navigate Xlobby or Zoom Player. Pretty cool, since I always have mobile with me :-)

You need:

1) SE GSM phone (it works for me on T630, K750i and K550i, so it probably works with all newer SE mobiles)
2) FMA (freeware) http://fma.sourceforge.net
3) Visual GM Skin (could be easily adapted for other skins) http://xlobby.lanik.org/Visual%20GM.v0.03.exe
and
4) this http://xlobby.lanik.org/VisualGSM.zip script :-)

Hope somebody finds it usefull.

I did have some problems with passing the commands to Zoom to display URL navigator with caller info, and also, some problems when phone went out of range and returned to reconnect. The new version should fix these issues.. I've been running it for days absolutely reliable.

If I get some free time, I might write a how to guide :-)

Just an update, now i'm recognizing whether emulators (MAME/PS/N64) are running to prevent popups during gaming.

I dunno what exactly you need... this thing connects to the GSM mobile phone (mostly SE phones) via Bluetooth (native or COM port) or cable. Then you can switch profiles, make calls, send/receive SMSes... it is scriptable through VBScript... But I'm not sure whether you can use PC speaker/mic for phone calls...

I use it to receive notifications on calls and SMSes on my HTPC... the script I posted lowers the volume on call or pauses movie and displays caller info on screen, and you can use mobile as a remote to control HTPC, but that's about it.
