xweather - help to config

Postby e268 on Wed Mar 22, 2006 7:09 pm

I installed the latest xlobby2prerelease1 and have a question on the xweather plugin:

The defualt comes config with Cornwall, Canada and the name Cornwall shows on the menu page (bottom right), together with temp. However, when I config it for Toronto, Canada, the name does not show up.

Also, when I click Weather from the menu page, it shows 5 days of forecast, but there is no way of knowing which city it is for, since the name of Cornwall, nor Toronto show up. Ditto for current.

Anything I can do to have the name of city included?

Thanks for any response. I have searched but no clue, and have been trying for a few hours fiddling around, but no joy.

BTW, I have tried installing just xlobby2prereleae 1, then with xlobby2main on top of it, and then with xlobby2 on top of it, but no location name. Do I need to just install xlobby2prerelease1 only or have to add xlobby2main and xlobby2. Thanks.

Which skin are you using? Besides that, make sure you have the latest Xweather plugin. To update press F2, this will take you to the setup window, then click on the "Download" tab. Click on Download List. From there, highlight any description with a red dot next to it then click on "Download". Once done, the "Install Updates Now" should be selectable, and click on that. Most likely Xweather will be one of the ones that require updating. Goto Plugins, select Xweather and configure it for Toronto (sounds like you have already done this though). Close down the Setup window.

Next press the Pause/Break key. That will bring up the Skin window. I'm not going to explain each selection here as there are some excellent documents on this that can be found in the documents section, which would go into more detail and explain things better than I could ever do. If you click on the Goto tab, you then can scroll through the list and select your weather page (if you aren't already there prior to opening the Skin Editor). If you then click on the area that should display your city location, a rectangle should appear. Select "Item" tab, then the "Text" tab. In the window should be the following:
"plugin>xweather>current>%name%"

In the gray area under Actual Text, it should show the actual information that the plugin has downloaded. You can use this to verify if the location is Toronto or not.

Now in the default original skin there was also a line that looked like this:
"plugin>xweather>current>City: %city%"

I don't think this works (it's not for me), and can be deleted.

The other thing that may be the problem is that the text font size might be too large for the window that has been setup to display this information. To change this, either you can goto the edge of the rectangle and click and drag with the mouse or goto "Item/Default" and change the values next to W (width) and H (height). The X and Y values are screen locations.

Close down the Skin Editor and hopefully your good to go. Remember, Steven has now started to use .Net 2 framework, so if you update your xlobby.exe file and haven't update the .Net 2 framework, you may be looking at some problems there.

I hope this was helpful for you.

David.

David: thank you very much for the detailed instruction. I would have never figured it out, wondering how I can get to the skin editor, which I have seen it in some of the skins.

I now have "North America, Canada, Toronto" displayed. Too bad %city% does not work.

BTW, I am using thedefault skin of the prerelease1.

My next problem is how to get it to play offline dvd's. But, I'll make another post. Hope you can help me there. TIA.

This is a slightly more involved process. It would help if you have the following documents to help understand the terms used:

Basic Xlobby Setup Guide:
http://www.xlobby.com/files/jowaldo/doc ... /index.htm . Pay special attention to the File Types section.

Event Variable Guide (valuable information provided by Colby):
http://www.xlobby.incolby.com/EventVariableSheet2.htm . Just a wealth of information for changing/creating skins.

And the Offline Events guide:
http://www.xlobby.com/files/jowaldo/doc ... /index.htm . The document of documents to help understanding offline events.

I was having a similar problem when I was trying to learn how to play offline movies and then I found/was directed to that last document, it was a big time help.

After reading those docuements and trying it out, if you get stuck, or have any further questions about it, please let us know.

Hope this was helpful.

David: thanks for the links. Followed them cand checked many times on my setup.

After playing with it for a few hours, without 100% success, I think I need help.

Zoomplayer Professional:

I enabled zplayer on "file Type" screen, enter proper Program path, extension no change, command has /f %playlist%

It will play my online movies. As for offline, it will bring up zoomplayer, but I have to give it a click to start the movie. I remember when I first used xlobby2 last year, I was able to make it play offline after I inserted the disc and click Continue. In this case, after I click Continue, it bring back the movie Play, Cancel screen. I clicked Play, and it brings up ZP but did not start to play the movie.

Media Player Classic:

Extension: ifo,avi,iso,img,video_ts,wmv,mpg

Command:
/play /close "pathname --> this will only play online movies, no offline

/play /close "parameter" --> this plays online movies. For offline, after inserting dvd and hitting the Continue and Play, it brings up the mpc splash screen, then goes black, without playing the movie. I have to press ctrl-D for it to start.

So, it does not matter which I use, I need to start the offline movies.

What the trick?

I really appreicate your help.

Edit: I have the database all setup properly using DvdProfiler. In File Type, if I assign a start event to : PLAY MOVIE, it gives me an error "Xlobby2.0 Alpha has encounter ... needs to close..."

In your movie database, for the offline movie, did you check the box next to Offline Item? Also did you set up the offline event to goto some sort of overlay to indicate that the movie is offline? For the default skin it would be "show offline message". This is also configured in the File Types group.

Also are you still trying to use Steven's orginal skin? I've been looking at its events, and for "offline movie launch" it has a command called "continue start event" . It doesn't seem to be tagged to any Xlobby command which leads me to believe that it is a dead command. Maybe it was something he was experimenting with back in the days.

I think you have reached a point of trying out a different skin that may be setup already. Just remember that some skins use Xoapweather, so you may have to update the text fields by changing xweather to xoapweather for the most part. Buddabing's KISS skin is a real nice one and he even has a well informed document on setting it up. It may be a good one for you to start with.

Yes, all of these were done properly.

Yes, I am using Steven's skin because I like its look. It does lead to "continue start event" which as you said, leads to nothing. I'll see if I can modify it. I was using Buddabing's skin last year and offline worked.

Thanks for your help. I'll play around with it. At least, it can do offline now altho with an extra manual step.
