Best all-around tv tuner card for xlobby?

Postby summerall on Wed Jun 29, 2005 5:30 pm

I'm looking at trying to get XL working with a tv tuner card. Which tv tuner card has the best value/performance? I was looking at the Hauppague PVR-150 at Circuit City for $59.99 after rebates. Is this a good/bad choice? Any opinions are welcome!

Thanks

It seems that PVR150 is the best value for the money.
I have been using Hauppage PVR cards during the last year and I am very satisfied with them.
I have:
1 x PVR 350
1 x PVR 250
3 x PVR 150 MCE
in my media server
It was quite tricky to put them all in a single system but finally I did it.
There's a small TV quality difference between 350/250 and the 150 MCE.
The 150MCE's have a bit more blurry picture, but that is something you can fix (hauppage tweaker).
Bear in mind that there are still problems with the audio level (the input is too high) with the 150MCE's. If you don't intend to use the video in,
it should not be a problem.
I have also tried several cards with NVIDIA chipset but those are far behind in terms of TV Quality.
Also forget all the cards with software compression.
It seems that the Hauppage's are best supported by third party applications.

So if I intend to feed the PVR150 with my directv satellite signal the audio will be very high? Is this something that can be compensated for?

Hauppage is working on that problem.
You should visit the forums at http://www.shspvr.com/smf.
There was one version of the beta drivers which didn't have this problem.
