Steve, I think you should put and option to use the '*' so we can specify where you want to start searching for the word

eg: *love = anything that ends with 'love'
eg: love* = anything that starts with 'love'
eg: *love* = anything with 'love'

or how about leave it as it is, but if the user inputs a * then limit the search to before or after (depending on the location of the star).

eg: *love = anything that ends with 'love'
eg: love* = anything that starts with 'love'
eg: love = anything with 'love'

Great job Steven - will definitely add more flexibility. Can anyone help me with setting up buttons that when pressed will return all albums from a certain decade? When I go to the search screen and select year as the filter, then enter 197 this will return all years with matches from the 1970's in the music search window. I then created an event with 'set filter year' and then 'set input text 197'. I assigned this event to a button and it works fine in the search screen. However I want to have all of the matching albums display in the main music screen. I'm still struggling with some of the concepts used when modifying skins, so I apologize if this seems trivial.
Any help would be appreciated.

I think if you use the event command:

category->custom search
and in the field box put year
and in the value box put 197

should work.

Thanks for the suggestion vicom. I tried this but still no luck. I created the custom search, created a button and assigned the click event to this search. But nothing happens when I click on the button. If you get a chance, can you try this on your system and let me know the results?

Yeah I dont think vicom's suggestion will work. It will search for specific entry 197. Unless you have midevil music, there will be no results returned. Your first search method seems closer. What would happen if you renamed your music category to filterdetails? Would this work?

Thanks for the reply Colby. I gave this a try but I still had the same results. You are correct as far as vicom's method. When I changed it to 1971 it showed the albums from that year. I guess I assumed that the change Steven implemented concerning partial match searches would handle this situation. Maybe he'll chime in here when he gets a chance.

While we are at it: Once I filter a search from an overlay how can I close the overlaying showing the filtered results. For instance if I click filter genre, type rock, I get all genres of rock. Rock, Rock'n'roll, Hard Rock, Alternative rock, soft rock, classic rock, etc. These populate the filterdetail category. I want to close the search overlay and have my music category filtered as was its details (in album view). Am I missing something, how would I do this?

And once I can do this, what if I wanted to exclude a result from the list, say I want all my rock except soft rock. I think there should be a Ignore toggle that lets me remove items from a search result list.

Colby, this is exactly why I never used filter in the first place. Somehow it is not logical to select filter criteria (i.e. genre) then type genre (i.e. rock) and when you get results in filter detail category, you must select something from category to display it in music category.

I too would prefer to select criteria, and press "OK" and see the same thing I see in filter detail category in normal music category.

I aggree with the previous posts regarding the need for a wildcard character ('*') in the search criteria. I didn't realize until this morning that any searches on atists, title, etc include all matches of the search string. For example, if I enter 'he' on an artist search, I would normally get Heart, Hendrix, Henley, etc. Now I get 16 pages of results where the string 'he' appears in any part of the name including all of the artists with 'The' in the name. This makes the search feature all but unusable at this point.
Steven, please add the wildcard option to address this issue.

msteel, dont stop at h.e. keep typing. h.e.n.d.r. I think it filters fine. But I dont oppose the astrix thing.
