In the xlobby\skins\default folder there is a weather.xml file. Use notepad (or your editor of choice) to insert the URL address of the weather map of your choice in place of the URL address in the imagename line. See example below. To find a map, use a search engine with "weather" and your city and you should some useful links.

<imagename>http://images.wjla.com/abc3340/plarge.gif</imagename>
<location>655,38,562,379</location>
<navitem>False</navitem>
</eventbutton>

news feeds are like this,

If you want to try the new RSS feed feature, simply use "news" as your database name and

http://rss.news.yahoo.com/rss/topstories

as your url....well you could use any rss feed you want. They have alot here

http://www.syndic8.com

after that your news section should be working :)

How do you get the images for weather????

Postby Jim McDougall on Fri Oct 31, 2003 6:22 am

In the xml file for weather all the references are to .JPG files from images.weather.com. These don't exist anymore according to the site.
"No longer available" If I go to any of the weather sites for Columbus OH the radar maps are .PHP files or they are .jpg or gifs embedded in the screen. There is no access to these images directly via a URL.

So how do you describe this in the XML file for example, the doppler radar for Columbus is http://www.10tv.com/weather/bigdoppler.php. How do I define this image in the xml file???

Things like 5 day forecasts are all buried as on
http://www.weatherunderground.com/cgi-b ... umbus+ohio

no image to reference here

thanks

First off-

Welcome to the xlobby forums. To address your first question- the image link fo rth big dopper is: Image
http://www.10tv.com/weather/updated/dualdoppler.jpg

And your second, well you cant really. The only way to get a 5 day forcast (as of now) is to find something similar to this: Image

And reasoning; well its simple, the 5 day forcasts arent in graphic format, which is the only format xlobby supports at the moment for weather. I do believe a month or so back steven said he might have found a site that had xml bases weather reports. Meaning if he found it for sure he could create something that would automaticly put in your location and on xlobby load have it download the info and display it all nice. Who knows though, hehe lets just make to the next alpha first hehe. Good luck!

Although the website shows not available, the links in the weather.xml file still work. Thanks for the columbus radar. Who would have thought the 'update' directory was in there. As to the 5 day forecast, I was suspicious that what you said would be the answer. Kind of got spoiled with the myHTPC capability in this area. Still feel XLobby will be a better product!

Hit F2 to go to setup, go to the misc tab, and choose "load http images on startup" that will load any images on the start of xlobby though, not when the screen opens. I don't know any other way.

The weather section has changed. In the "old" times links to http images where used, now weather is controlled by a plugin. (hit F2 to change the plugin settings). Ofcourse, you still can add your own http images to the weather page, or create a different setup for weather.

The weather images must be downloaded separately as they are copyrighted images (I think).

You can download the images from here...

http://www.deviantart.com/deviation/5215175/

and put them into the plugins/xweather/images directory. Restart, then you should be good to go.

Are you sure you are using the latest build of the xlobby2.exe and the xweather.dll?

This was a problem with some older builds, but now it works fine..
