Working with the Nebula Digicard

Postby ukbubs on Sat Oct 02, 2004 10:20 pm

Now that I've got dvb-t (called freeview in the UK), I'm about to get a suitable card. The Nebula digicard looks to be much the best option for me.

Can anybody who is using it tell me the solutions they use to run it alongside x-lobby?

I also use Xlobby and a Nebula card. I would be interested how people have intergrated each app and control of nebula with a PPC (I use a simpad).

Thanks

I haven't integrated mine at all yet but could be up for a joint effort, there seems to be very little sharing of "modules" that is a section that works with a single device.

The other device that could do with some integration is dscaler for sky+ and of course the sky+ controls to be repeated via the usbuirt from a ppc/simpad.

Multicast & xAP

Postby andylaurence on Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:45 am

The Nebula software multicasts its output over the network. I'm not sure if this can be viewed by an application other than the Nebula software. I suppose VLC (http://www.videolan.org) would be most likely to work. If another application is able to view the streams, then the xAP interface for the Nebula software would be a good way to control the software.

The way I envisage it is with a central server running the Nebula software, and sharing out media/databases. Clients (running Xlobby) then use the databases and media from the server, and connect to the stream when live TV is wanted. OK, so you only get one TV channel over the network (or rather, one multiplex) at a time, but it's good enough for me (and probably others too). I suppose there's also the option of a second Nebula too.

Cheers,
Andy

I have used the multicasting software across my network but find it a bit flakey. If you use videolan etc will you still be able to change channels, start recording etc?

Hhmm.... sound like the best thing might be to put the digicard on a desktop, and just use xlobby for viewing recorded shows later......

VLC Change Channels?

Postby andylaurence on Tue Oct 05, 2004 8:24 am

You wouldn't change channels with VLC - that's what the xAP bit is for. You'd keep the focus on Xlobby, and use that to change channels on the Nebula software. I'm just not sure if VLC will pick up the stream.

Cheers,
Andy
