xlobby in the living room

Speak your mind

xlobby in the living room

Postby cubesys on Fri Dec 01, 2006 7:19 pm

I just finished installing a 15" touch screen in a closet that shares a wall with the living room. The result is the nicest (IMHO) remote control for background music. I borrowed and modified slightly a skin from here... thanks for the support.

Overall I am very happy with the results and I got many compliments.

Looks very nice - I'm tempted now to do the same thing.
I like the skin too.

It looks very nice. I really want to do this with big plasma placed vertically, to show nowplaying movieposter at entrance to home cinema.

One thing though... its not nice for wedding pic... get real frame with real pic... that one is just too easy to change. its bad omen.

Very nice install.. Very clean.. Is that a laptop screen in there or what? Any chance we could get some details as long as they're not trade secrets... :D

Can you describe that all the hardware is in Pic #3?

Looks great. Now all you need to do is build a shelf inside the closet and put a frame or door over the hole inside.

Since the studs are exposed, that should be easy.

thanks for all the kind words. The screen is an ELO touch screen 15" that was a table top version. I removed (very carefully) the actual components from the plastic bezel and used the frame that I made as a new front to the screen.

The mounting was challenging to say the least...

the computer is an old Dell dimension 4700 in a smaller form factor case. This is a 1.6GHz computer with 256MB ram and a cheap video card. As this computer only has windows, foobar and xlobby it is enough to run xlobby, play music and show the pictures as a screen saver.

The hardware I had lying around so I was really tempted to make use of it in the new house.

the hibuscus was brought in at the end of october and is watered from water that was in red wine bottles... it has flowered more since it has been indoors than outside.
