New Windows 7 XL setup, need HELP !!

Postby billberet on Tue Jun 28, 2011 2:16 pm

ok boyz,
i finally did the deed and migrated to win7 for my xl server.
i have a few issues i am working on.

one issue is VIDEO going to the second monitor.

i have an ati Radeon HD 3200 vid card (1vga and 1 component video running to my video distribution system)
in my old XP machine i had Catylist control center (ccc) running in theater mode.
this means any video played was outputted full screen to the component video.

in windows 7, Theater mode in (CCC) has been removed, the feature will no longer work.
has anyone else gotten video to be sent to the second monitor using theater mode?
i tried for hours with no luck, the most i was able to get was a black screen.
audio worked fine, just the video was black on the second monitor.

second, i downloaded MPC to run my video's.
how do i get XL to default to MPC (media player classic)

thanks guys

so far the best help i found online is this, i have the options already disabled with no luck:
maybe i'm not using media player classic. i right click the video, say open with, then choose the MPC exe file.
but it still looks like the standard media player is playing it.

this what was said to get theater mode working:

"Easy way to do it is download Media player classic homecinema, do a search to find the executible file and right click properties -> compatibility. Tick the bottom two options (disable desktop composition & display scaling) and save. Afterwards set it as your default player and open a video file, windows will switch to the basic theme and you will get perfect theater mode on your second monitor/tv."
dont forget to Enable overlay mixer

another solition was this, i have not tried it yet. but looks promising.
I've used ultramon before works great, but never used the 'mirror' feature.
you can actually Mirror a specific application, in this case MPC !!!!!
i might have my answer, god i hope this works!!!!!!

Win7Pro 64 with Media Player Classic Home Cinema 64 playing AVI's using UltraMon. There is a tool that they provide amongst a whole slew of other options that works great for this situation: Mirror.

Mirror an application (Media Player Classic Home Cinema 64) with player preset to compact, and away you go! Works great :-)

I can watch on my primary, and full screen on the projector no problem! Lets me watch and work at the same time, my wife can watch the full screen and she is happy. I have the choice to do either and with windows 7 aero still working too.

ok i got video working, now my only issue is sound.
It's been a long time since i had to configure SPDIF.

for people using win 7, how did you get your SPDIF working.
i installed cyberlink dvd 6, and chose it for the graph inside XL, and in the audio configuration i chose spdif.
i also checked off the 'use spdif' and 'use cyberlink hardware rendering' (something to that effect)

i believe it's my win7 configuration. if i open MPC and start a movie my receiver displays 'pcm' i no longer get the digital signal.
inside sound configuration of win7 i chose my spdif output as my default sound device, same way i did when i had XP.
the video will play but the sound is VERY low, it's more like residual sound, i have to put my ear to the speaker to hear it slightly.
so i know something is off.

is anyone else using spdif with cyberlink and win7 ?
if so, how did you configure yours.

i tried every version of driver known to man to get the creative audigy 2 spdif working.
from the looks of it, any player used will not output to spdif.
looks like it's a windows 7 issue, it could be an onboard spdif, or a card, either way, no sound.
i can go into the audio properties and run a test in windows and it works fine (i hear the chimes), but no programs will output in spdif.
any analog signal works fine, all digital signals have no sound.

cyberlink - no
Classic media player - no
VLC - no
media player 10 - no
media player 11 - no
media center - no

i am about to scrap the win 7 scenario and go back to xp.
is there anyone with a working windows 7 spdif configuration?

ac3 is my friend !!!!!!
i got my XL to finally play audio by choosing the cyberlink graph with AC3 filter.
then i configured the AC3 filter to use spdif.

it's saying PCM not Digital, but at least it's a start, i have sound, lol
:)

hey Bill, i will have to pick your brain again when you get back !!

I have SPDIF working with Win 7 x64 Professional and MPC with no problems. I would be happy to help when I get back to my system. I do seem to remember it was a little flakey setting up but can't remember how I fixed it.

With a little trial and error I'm sure we can get you working properly.

sorry Bill, i went back to XP :(

too many issues with hardware rendering on secondary monitors.
but i'm happy to say i'm back up and running at 100% in HD with spdif !!!
XL is running insanely fast and all the touchscreens are responsive and calibrated correctly.

i am extremely happy with the outcome !
