When Pablo, the original Medio/myHTPC programmer, sold the rights to Yahoo the program effectively died. But the old die-hard Meedio developer community decided to rebuild their old beloved software. Because of code rights the team had to start from scratch with all gpl code. In order to maintain compatibility they also researched the original meedio as everything for that program was configurable via xml files. MeediOS is still in (pre) alpha, so pre-alpha in fact that you better be a programmer in order to try and run it as it is currently only distributed in binary files You can check out their web site here: http://www.meedios.com
While still in early alpha it looks VERY promising. Check out the video below and see how the MeediOS interface supports 3D objects, animated backgrounds and scrolling thumbnails:

MeediOS does not appear to have the server/client capabilities of XL, but hopefully Steve and Wes will be able to deliver the ability to build similar interface capabilities in the new XL v3.
