help with ant movie catalogue and offline movies

Hi all

oke, now i'm working about 4 weeks (almost everyday) with xlobby and i still find it learning curve to high.

Progress i've made so far :

first week : reading every documentation about xlobby and the whole forum. i've printed 200 pages of info (sorry, i have no 2 monitors) and trying to figure out the whole structure of xlobby
Downloading skins and trying to figure them out.

Second week : more reading and printing out. So far i managed to get a decent music database and a picture database.
I've also did some frustrating posts on this forum cause it's getting more difficult to handle everything.

Thirt week: setting up my first movie database ..just plain movies in one directory from my hard drive..and yes it works a little.

week 4: Trying to mix 2 differend skins from baddabing...so trying to do some skinning from my own with buttons etc from baddabings collection of skins.
Trying to make my offline movie database with ant movie catalogue.

Damn now i'm getting really frustrated.. all the info on the board are not up to date and it's all shattered around the board.
The problem is, i have to learn to skin if i want to change xlobby to my needs. But thats not the biggest problem. I have to learn xml stuff if i want to make real changes.

So i downloaded amc ...made a movie cataloque of 100 movies i've had stored on cd (old movies) imported all the information stuff into amc.
Then downloaded xant, edited the ini file to where all the info was stored on my harddrive. And Nothing happened.

First question

do i need to add a link to the movies.amc on my harddrive under xlobby setup and databases? No answers found on the forum.
Does the movietemplate from xant just have to stay in the plugin directory?
I numbered my movies in amc and thats the number i've wrote on the cd. How can i make this template (see under) say : Insert the offline movie NR 1 or NR 99 into the dvd playerand press...etc
i want to display the number of the cd there so i could fetch the cd cause all these movies are offline on a cd.

I still think that somebody has to make a videotutorial..just so we all could get a hang off the whole structure of xlobby and all those variables.
Just a small one..how to make 2 new pages in a skin with 2 or 3 buttons and an insertion of a small database and how all the linking of pages works.

Most people by now know that if you like to change xlobby to your needs, we have to make new buttons etc. But the big problem for most people is the structure of the skinning..where do you put what page and how do you link the pages and variables and triggers.

Maybe make a new discuttion forum thread with ...a walktrough this and a walktrough that in detail.

When you say nothing happened, do you mean that a database was not created and place in the database directory, or when opening Xlobby to the movie screen, that category did not show the movie database?

The template database could pretty much be placed anywhere as you should have setup a path to it in the Xant.ini file. Most people though just leave it in the plugins/Xant directory.

i managed to get all the movies from amc in a movietemplate of baddabing..when i click on a moviethumb i get the moviedetail,,and there i can push the play button, i get the offline movie template from baddabing

and by...insert the offline movie (there i want the number of the cd)

i have for testing 100 movies in amc...and they are all offline movies...and there are numbered from 1 to 100 (normally:-)...i've wrote that number on the cd ...so when i can see the numer i know what cd number to look for.

i tried to make a new text place in between with the variables
category>movies>numbers but it didn't worked.

Any ideas

oke..i solved the problem..i'm getting smarter with a day

i edited the movietemplete and at a parameter under information
<number>$$ITEM_NUMBER</number>

and that did the trick.

now all i have to do is put all my movies in amc and write the number of the movie on the cd.

i don't understand why nobody has a full walktrough of something like this.
