Advanced Searching

Postby Twit on Sat Apr 15, 2006 7:38 am

Steve,

Forgive me if I can already do this but have not figured it out yet.
There is a post about jriver integration which made me think about this.

Nearly every time I have a party we end up searching the music database for specific songs people want to hear (I have 14000). I always end up using jriver to find a specific song because XL has set search parameters. Some one says 'Remember that song sung by those guys - something about a doctor". If i search in xlobby on doctor i get nothing because the answer is "Spin Doctors".

Baically what I would like is:

1 - Search on any part of a name/song not just the beginning.
2 - Search entire database at once. People often get the artist name and song name mixed up.
3 - Ability to do boolean searches. ie "*Doctors".

Thanks
Simon.

i'll vote for this too. :)

[edit] - let me clarify:
take a look at Winamp's Jump to File plugin - that's great searching!

ok guys here is what i did, should be good...see ya

http://www.xlobby.com/xlobby2screentest.zip

just kidding, I didnt add the "*" request because I think what I did should cover that one. If you do a search for "doctor" now it will check for everything that starts with "doctor" then it will look for anything that contains the word...I think that will be enough but I can add "*" if we think its needed....but again I dont think its needed.

Search entire database at once. People often get the artist name and song name mixed up

yah good idea, I never thought of that....ok I have added the ability to filter on multiple filters if that makes sense...think of it as combining the results into one. So "xlobby->set filter" can not only have "artist" as a filter but now it can have "artist, trackname" as a multifilter.....again this applies for anything....make the multi filter as long as you want just seperate what your filtering on by a comma....ie artist, album, trackname

try that out and tell me if that helps out enough.
