2 DVD VOB rips

Postby str1der on Tue May 01, 2007 8:21 pm

I've searched and found some discussions about multi discs but couldn't find anything about VOB/IFO rips. How do you guys handle single movies that are two discs when you rip to vob/ifo?

Are you saying you combine them into an ISO? I'd rather not have to fool with Deamon tools just for a couple movies if I don't have to.

Hey Strider

DVD Shrink 3.2 will do this for you. And best of all it's free!

If you rip the main movie off of both disks to separate folders, then take the VOB's from the second disk ,rename them sequentially from the first set ( lets say the last VOB on the first disk is VOB 05, then you take the first VOB on second disk VOB file will be named VOB 06 thru whatever) then paste them to the first sets folder they will play as one movie.

Hope I explained this clearly and that it helps

DVD Shrink, THAT'S what I couldn't think of ... sheesh! That's what I get for answering while at work (or attempting to answer :P)

you can also adjust the start/end times of the segments so you don't have the "intermission" or fade to black, etc. I've done this with a couple of 2 DVD movies (Gone with the Wind, Schindler's List, etc). It works great!

i do it with dvd shrink as well.

the only problem is that you end up with a single dvd with 2 titles.

it works great and there is no noticeable delay when it moves on to the second disk...

its not a big deal but for long doble disks (like LOTR) i end up with the time bar going from (say) 0 - 1:38 for title one. then it moves onto title 2 and shows 0 - 1:22.

Its not a big deal, but it would be nice if it showed the correct time (say 0 - 3:45).

Well when I do my rips I use ripit4me and DVD Decryptor. I rip movie only. That being the case do I even need to use DVD shrink? Can I just rename the vob files and everything will work fine or do I need to do something to the ifo file?

I Have never used Ripit4me, but I would think DVD Decrypter would work just fine. You really just need to rename the files and join them together after ripping them to your hard drive.

It all depends. If the multi-disk movie is only using 1 .ifo file, then you will most likely be fine. But my guess would be that when you rip the multi-disk movie, you will get two .ifo files (one from each disk). If that is the case, unless DVD Decryptor re-writes the ifo to contain all the information from both disks, you will have to use something like ifoedit to modify an ifo to contain all the vob's and timing information.

Though, I'm just guessing...the easiest thing is to look at your ripped files and see if there is only one ifo for all the movies or two.

Oh and Ripit4Me...awesome little program.
