PC Games

Postby rhitt on Fri Sep 24, 2004 3:30 am

I've got a custom category I have sucessfully imported for the shortcuts for my sons games, with the cover art for each. But I can't figure out how to launch the correct shortcuts using the variable for that category. My think was if the game was named say game.lnk then my event would be something like "%games>%name".lnk or something like that. The benefit being the shortcut wouldn't be hard coded and the only maintenance I would have to do would be to ensure going forward any new games would have the correct shortcut and cover art naming, do an updated import and Xlobby would handle the rest.

I'm using shortcut's rather than exe's or bat files because I first unmount and then munt the correct iso with Daemon and then run the exe for the game.

Hope I'm explaining this well.... thanks in advance for any and all help.

Sorry nobody had replied. I thought of a way to make your games database but I have trouble because of this line:

I dont know a thing about Daemon other than what it is. But maybe I can help with a work around.
1. Are iso files 1st opened by Daemon and then executed from within?
(I assume that kinda like unzipping something to reach its exe)
2. Are all your game iso's in the same directory?
3. How many games are we talking?

The sequence I follow

For each game I have created an ISO in a common directory. This way I don't have to swap disks. Each game then has it's own bat file created which basically unmounts anything that is already mounted to that drive letter, mounts the iso specified in the bat file and finally runs the executable for the game. That much works great. I then create a shortcut that points at the bat file so that I can add further settings like run minimized so that the DOS window stays hidden.

Under myHTPC I used to map icons or cover images for the games to their respective shortcuts or lnk files, and I know I can do this under Xlobby but integrating it into a database just seems like the way to go to minimize ongoing maintenance.

It could be something to do with the association for lnk files but I haven't fiigured out how to diagnose or test that yet.

Any and all help is appreciated, particularly Colby.
