Fanart

Got an idea, post it here

So here is what I was thinking,

Load the movies database - I am not planning on changing anthing in this db
Allow the user to select which field to use for the title search, i.e sorttitle, name etc...
If duplicates occur have user select which is the correct title
Allow user to download all of the associated fanart or select which picts to get
Have user create naming template to create unique names for the pics
Identify where the picts should be stored

Are ther any other features you would like?

Larry sounds good to me...we'll talk about actors and other stuff when the plugin is stable and up and running  8)

Are you planning to have it work from within the skin or from within setup out of interest or either?

I was first developing it as a standalone. But I could build it as a plugin interface or possibly a web interface. I am building it xmal/wpf in c#. I do not know how Xlobby will react if I open one of it's databases to read from while it is running. It would be great if Steven would create a webservice to query for data within Xlobby. That would open alot of possibilities.

If you continue to complete the fanart skin you teased us with would you need fields to be created in the Movies database? On themoviedb.org there are usually a number of good 1920x1080 backgrounds to download. Would there be a way to cycle through them? My interface allows you to create a unique name for each file like "The Man Who Knew Too Little - FA1".

Initially the site listed that the interface was only for non-comercial use but in the forums the site owner said it was ok.

its fine... lots of plugins access the xlobby db's directly,

1 call the write to xml (xlobby event)
2 read it (eg movies.xml) into your plugin
3 process as you like
4 overright the xlobby copy of the db xml file
5 call the refresh db function to get xlobby to load the new db (xlobby event)...

I have a few plugins that do this - xmusic, xdatabase etc...

Larry, whatever works for you i'm down with it :D

I was planning to incorporate all the fan art into a redesigned iphone/ipad skin. I think i'll strip out the pseudo iphone surround which will free up alot of screen room to concentrate on what xlobby does best which is control. More along the webserver screens i did.

Sould we create a new db with a link back to the moviesdb? Or just do it through naming conventions like "<sortname>-FA1"

Thanks Sam, I do not know how the fanart will be implemented and do not know what fields if any will need to be add to the database.

I am hoping to have a pretty raw implementation to share soon.

I like the first one.

i am using adobe after effects to create them
my plan is to randomly play a quick video before each movie when the trailer piece of XL is completed.
i've been creating them from scratch, hopefully they will get better over time!!!

Bill,

Very cool videos. Could you output the files in .wmv or .avi format with and without sound. A version that animates slower would be cool as well. We are working on some new hardware and skin tools, ideas and want to feature them in the layout if possible.

If you have some free time could you call me at the office.Tel: 1-800-821-8536.
