my own remote question.

Speak your mind

my own remote question.

Postby mrjkwik on Mon Sep 06, 2004 5:14 pm

well, i'm not into paying over 100 for a remote. i have a pretty simple home theater setup. i dont own my home so no point in going overboard. i had a question like this before, but never really got an answer. then when steven had problems, not only did my question disappear, but so did my info. so after reregistering, i'm gonna ask my question again.

i have a rear projection rca tv, a dvd/home-theater-in-a-box combination, and motorola cable dvr hd cablebox.

on the computerside i have a 2.0 pentium with a ati aiw 8500 with the remote wonder.

i know that the remote wonder is rf, and all my other remotes are ir. if i were to get a ir blaster (recommendations?), and used girder (big learning curve there), can i do a lot of programming, and basically send a signal to the computer in rf, then have the comptur signal my componets in ir? can i program the remote wonder to operate all my theater equipment, in and out of xlobby? if so, got any simple solutions to possibly simplify this task. thanks guys. lots of pros here that i had seen before. i'm sure you guys can answer my question.

Take a look at this article:

If you use this remote along with the Total Home Remote software that they mention in that article, it may do what you want without having to learn Girder at just over half the cost of your budget. The other thing that I looked at was getting a Phillips Pronto 1000 off of Ebay for around $100 & then going that way, but I think that you'd still need to learn Girder even though the Pronto has its own software (BICBW). From what I can tell, the Harmony, Home Theater Masters & Prontos tend to be the most popular for this purpose.

Here are a couple of links to forums that I've been hounding lately on this very issue:

Oh & welcome to Xlobby! :D
