Help each other out

which IR-Receiver will work with xlobby (except usb-uirt)

Postby MariusKolo on Wed Dec 27, 2006 10:53 am

hi.
at first I woul like to excuse for my english.
I would like to control my htpc with my harmony 555. Is it possible to use another receiver than usb-uirt. There is nobody who sells this one in germany and the shipping is (at my opinion) to expensive. I have found this one http://www.my-irshop.de/catalog/product ... cts_id=156 (sorry only in german). Can I use this with xlobby (without using girder/eventghost)??

Thanx for the support
Marius

If you want to only receive signals, then a cheap and easy way is to build a WinLIRC (Google WinLIRC for more details and circuit schematics), and connect it to the COM port. Then use Girder with the IGOR plugin. Worked great when I tried it.

Hope this helps.

Also u could build UIRT2... U can do it from ground up yourself, if making circuit board poses no problem, theres everything u need at the site. Or u can order circuit board, or if im not mistaken whole bundle with components too. DIY option should not cost u much more than 20€ i would say and its whole lot of fun!

But as answer your question, i dont think theres any other solution besides usb-uirt, which works directly with xlobby without any third party software, well besides microsoft remote. Anyway i dont quite see whats problem with shipment cost... they are selling unit from great britain to euro-zone customers, and as far as i remember shipping cost was rather fair. If i remember right unit with shipping to eurozone was priced somewhere around 70€.

However if u prefer German product, if im not mistaken IR-TRANS is german. Came with my case and im rather happy with it, works great trough girder. However, again, if im not mistaken unit is more expensive than USB-UIRT.

If u prefer to go cheap and with least trouble, get one of those MCE remotes, available from everywhere, with 30€, and with replacement drivers works together with other remotes. Allthough this solution doesnt support turning computer on with remote... Also emitters in this solution are those "eye stalks" u have to install incontact with receiver, so dont expect too much for it. However dont get me wrong, price/quality ratio is not bad.

And one more thing, if u only want to receive. There are high changes that some equibment in your junk box already makes it possible. So check all those old tv-cards, soundcards, mpeg cards + other junk dusting in closet for ir sensor, if u catch one, there is really high changes that it will work together with some plugin to HIP, Girder or WinLirc, so go scout those projects pages for plugin for your receiver.

Product u show, i cant say much, but what i gather with my bad germish, i would say try it out, atleast u wont loose much money. However mayby u should first read about that igor plugin it mentions, just to check it out. Will it work without girder? My quess is no.

thank you for your replies. Think I will do the easiest way and purchase the usb-uirt. Using this unit I do not need girder anymore, right? So I could "teach" Xlobby in combination with usb-uirt for example to switsch the lights on and of? Sorry for the dump questions, but I`m just starting to concern with this issue. At first I wanted to control my home cinema using a touchscreen (therefore I`m developing my own skin), but I think it would be also fun to contain my harmony into this system.
