Dealing with multi-DVD sets

Postby xstanbx on Mon Feb 07, 2005 4:18 am

Was wondering how everyone was dealing with the situation of multi-DVD sets when importing info from DVDProfiler. For example, if you load the fact that you have a DVD set into DVDProfiler it loads as a single entry regardless of how many DVDs are in the set, But if you rip the dvds to your hard drive into a seperate directory then each one shows up as a seperate title, etc...
Thanks

I've run into this problem before, search the forums and someone might have come up with an answer at some point. I just started a new skin and will exventually have to work on this. It's gonna be tought getting the movies page to display correctly with my band of brothers box set and inuyash season 1 (like 25 episodes or something).

I don't have any tv sets, so I can't speak to that, but here's what I did with the Star Wars box set. I entered each one off of older versions of each in Profiler's database (I didn't use the box set version), & then manually edited/entered what info that I could within Profiler. What I couldn't change or enter, I altered in Xlobby's db editor. I was able to find the covers on the internet, & if that wasn't possible than I had planned on scanning them in.

I've done that for the band of brothers box set on my previous skin, but its a new one and ive lost all my previous programming. I'm wondering if theres a way to make xlobby know that certain entries are box(or tv sets) sets, that way you could then make another screen for them. But I have not the know how to do this. Maybe colby or jowaldo do hmmm....

the best way to make another screen for box sets it to create a seperate db of box sets, and a categories for such. Then you could switch to a tv shows screen or change the category on the movie screen with the touch of a button. I think this is what I am gonna do, eventually.

Colby...this would be awesome. I have been wanting to do this with my music page as well, since I find "genre" a little too restrictive. For example, I want to separate my "Classical", "Jazz", "Rock/Pop", and "Comedy" rips to different databases, but keep the more detailed genre like "alternative", "acid-jazz", "baroque" for searches.

This would also allow me to add/display class-specific data for each category, like composer, conductor, orchestra, etc... for classical music and lyrics for rock/pop

This is exactly what I did with my TVonDVD database. I have a separate screen which displays what shows I have - a thumb for each of ...currently...Black Adder, Black Books, Family Guy, Father Ted, Friends, The Young Ones. Clicking on the thumb opens up a thumb for each season - I have 4 seasons of Black Adder, 5 seasons of Friends etc...clicking on a season will show each individual episode. From there choosing an episode will launch it.

So far I've got around 250 individual episodes and the number is climbing. In fact it's climbing so fast I had to stop and convert each episode into XviD format becasue I was running out of space.

It works really well though. If you do a search on TV on DVD you should find my original posts asking the questions on how to set it up.

Good luck!

You'll find the thread here...

http://www.xlobby.com/forum/viewtopic.p ... highlight=

Steven's instructions for setting up the database are several posts further down in the thread.

In still in the process of adding episodes. It's the XviD encoding that takes the time. I usually set an encode up and then kick it off before going to bed, and then get up a little earlier to finish that one off, set another up and kick that off.

Once I've got a season finished I hit F2 in XLobby and refresh the TVonDVD database and it picks up the new season and all the episodes.

I've got BACK, REFRESH and HOME buttons on the selection page and that is all I need to navigate, and it's all controlled via the PPC.

I decided to dispense with the extra screen with the episode synopsis as I would have had to do the whole thing manually and I just don't have the time.

I'm currently doing the last season of Father Ted, and then it's time to start on Futurama. At this rate I'll still be going at the end of the year and (apart from the occasional Reset) my encoding PC will have been going 24/7 for all of that time!

Good luck! :D

What about cases where a single title spans multiple DVDs?

Example - Godfather 2

This is not a boxed set, where you can just lie in dvd profiler and enter the individual movies - I do that too with boxed sets. But for a single title, which is two discs, how do you handle this in DVDProfiler/XLobby?
