my new XL build - i5 processor / server 2003

Postby billberet on Wed Jun 15, 2011 5:31 pm

hey guys, doing a new XL build cause i have outgrown my existing machine.
i am going with HP Z200 business workstation with server 2003 standard.
HP owed me a few favors so they are 'donating' this to me, lol
i'll have the main drive mirrored (windows and XL), and the data will still reside on my Drobo as it always has.

i am going with the i5 processor because of the embedded instructions designed for multi media.
is anyone else using the i5 currently?

Save yourself some headaches - load Windows 7

I ran Server 2003 for years but since moving to Win 7 my system is much more stable

Mostly media related. Had problems running internal media player and in configuring sound cards. Since switching to Windows 7 profession I have not had any problems.

HA JAY !!!!
lol

i just figured server would be a stable platform, but i'll take the advice of the XL counsel and go win 7.
at least win 7 has all the codecs i need, so media should run smoothly with the i5 chipset.

my current machine has taken me years of trial and error, i am not looking forward to migrating to a new machine !!!!
but it needs to be done. wow, i can't believe i've been using XL since 2008 !!! I know it's not long compared to some of the ole timers here, ;)

i dropped my win 7 idea and went back to xp, i was having too many issues getting things to work.
especially since they broke 'theater mode' for win 7.
i was no longer able to use Catylist control center to send my video to my tv's

after i went back to XP, all was well with the world!!!!
