I know that some of you have been looking around for icons. This is a find I came across today. Hope it helps.

Thanks StuartAmbient,

There are some awesome icons there. It's just a shame that it's hard to locate icon sets more closely geared towards the home theater applications that we would use with XLobby. Especially things like a good transport control set. I'd come up with my own, but I lack both the time and the talent. :(

I think some of the ones being produced by the skin engineers on this site are very good though, but it's always nice to be able to put your own touch on a skin.

What do you mean exactly?

Well, I mean a good stylised set of controls for the common transport functions - play, pause, stop, ff, rew, skip fwd, skip back, eject. That kind of thing. Another icon that is often MIA is lights. So far I've managed to scavenge a couple of colored lightswitch icons from a Prontopro screen but, again, it would be nice to continue a common theme across the entire set of icons.

Most of the customised ones I've seen so far leave out at least one or two. So unless you're graphically talented (I don't qualify :? ) it's hard to carry the theme on to these icons.

Well maybe we should make a post and build a good list of what to include... I could try to make as many of them as possible

Good Idea !

Besides the transport, lights and other icons maybe we can also include fonts that are geared towards htpc, meaning clean, easy to read styles.

Guys,

This really is a good idea! Sorry I've been so late to post. Been sick.

I don't think it's any secret that many of us less graphically talented XLobby users are heavily dependent on those skin engineers on the site who put forward their skins. There have been quite a few excellent skins so far that have gone a long way towards the functionality I'm looking for but, again, those few missing functions always end up with me having to scavenge the missing icons/buttons from another source resulting in a bit of a mish-mash appearance.

If a basic generic set of function buttons/icons/whatever could be agreed to, then that could form the basis of a skin template. Even if you didn't use all of the buttons for your own purposes, it means that if someone else was to use your skin, they could easily adapt what you've done to suit their own requirements because they know the basic set already includes the functions they need.

The key would be to get some agreement on which functions should be included. There will always be someone who will want something just a little out of the ordinary, but maybe if the skin engineer was willing they could come up with something as a one-off?

Even then, if the skin engineer was also to provide the .psd files that might go some way towards addressing the problem too. Any thoughts?

I would like to add that most of you non skin engineers could learn to be.

If you have a copy of Fireworks, it is quite (almost very) easy to make transparent buttons, or backgrounds.

Put it this way, if you can figure out all the db settings in X and have set up x10, making graphics will be a walk in the park.

Now getting a whole skin to look good overall, such as the ones posted here, thats a different matter!

Icon Library

Postby JPRosiak on Fri Jun 03, 2005 1:25 pm

Is there any way we could have a post set up where we could download only parts of each skin people have available?
i.e. Icon library, Sound library, Background Library, etc...

This way, the less talented skinners (like myself) have a central point to download really cool items they need.
Does anyone see any benefits to what I am asking for?
