music structure. Was this resolved or not possible?

Anybody know if it is possible to sort the music databse in Artist-album-album. That is so I see ONE artist and under that all albums from that artist. Tried to search and found that people had problems with it, but was it resolved or still impossible?

AFAIK it is possible to create a data base with the structure you discribe (artist -> album -> track, instead of artist/album -> track). I posted how you should do this a few weeks ago. However, it didn't do me any good as I find it very hard to create a skin based on this database.

still impossible, i would have to tweak the music import to do this. You know you can just bring up the search dialog to select an artist...and that would show all their albums.

I could do that exept the bug in the abc overlay. It only works ONCE. check the bug forum. Thats why i'm thinking of resorting. Plus it takes up less space in the windows if it's sorted that way.

I don't remember what I did but I fixed so that you can search as many times yo want in my Media eX skin.Try that if you like :)
And by the way..that way you wanna save your database..wouldn't that be trouble with covers?
that way you must have a cover of the Artist that don't belong to a album on the root folder to display it "right".
I used to have it that way back in myHTPC days...but that was so unnormal for me so when I discovered XLOBBY and the way it uses databases it felt like a blessing from God (Steven).
If you read between the lines here you may have discovered that I am trying to get you to rebuild your database the "right" way :)

Well, not all music has covers. I'm trying to make a database for classical music, and an artist -> album -> track structure would be great. No cover art required!

Good point Arthur..
It should maybe been made a setupotions within the skin to choose how categorys should be listed.
Toplevel could then been with text and albums with cover..
Just a thought

Yes, this really needs to be redone.
The majority of people i know catalog their music like this, because, you would figure that would be the Correct way to organize, instead of just throwing albums and misc tracks into one folder

So Steve, your saying that this is impossible, and don't plan working it out?

I agree, it would be nice if there was a option in setup, where you can choose how you have your files organized, and it automatically sets up the db for you.

I agree. It should be possible if many people need it. PLUS the search (ABC overlay) bug must be resolved

I use pre18 founded in this forum as reference
and that dice..that was just implemented as a public request :)
I would like a feature where we can give each movie a rating.
and that have to be from 1 to 6.So when clicking on the dice a overlay with 6 dices should popup and we could choose one of them and the result shows besides moviecover. Then again it would be possibel to search on rating.
Wouldn't that be nice ? :)
I can make the diceimages needed for this if Steven make changes needed in Xlobby for this

I am so sorry QTips, but I do not get it to work in your skin either.

Tried like this

Go into music scren
press search button (the looking glass)
press a abc button, Works. Press reset (tried dice too)
go into the looking glass again, tried pressing a A or B or C. Does not work for me

Steve, do you think this will be possible with a future release? I cannot switch over completely until this is sorted out, which sucks because xlobby blows away everything else.

I've now got maybe up to 30 new users waiting for this solution so they can switch, nobody wants to reorganize their media. For people using remotes, the search function just isnt as easy as clicking on a album cover.

This needs to be applied to the movie module also, so It could read my Aquateen epsisodes, which all lie in one folder.
