Client with new ver 3

Postby Bill Lott on Mon Nov 17, 2008 2:26 am

Anyone able to configure a client using the new version 3?

If so, what settings are you using and how do you get to the configuration screen.

I think we have the same questions. Glad somebody else is asking.

The Client Server setup in V3 is completely different and uses a full working version of xLobby to operate. It is faster and has more power. Hopefully I will have answers by the end of the week on how we plan to get all the users special licenses to try the new system as well as how to set it up. :D

Wes, does this mean the XNet setup? Have any of the issues I raised on the v2 releases many months ago been addressed? Such as client refresh on server wake? Look forward with interest when xnet is there to be played with.

Now I'm really curious. Does "uses a full working version of xLobby to operate. It is faster and has more power" mean that you will be able to view a web page within the client?

That would really be great!

That would be awesome! Unfortunately I can't get the client to run with version 3 yet - but I'm hopeful!

Bill, what the prob when trying the client?

this is what I did.
* start server, goto xnet check the ip and then start server on startup.
* restart server xl

* start client, goto xnet, fill in ip for server, check connect at startup, and mimic
*restart client XL

now the client will sync database when starting and acting like a full client. Of course u need the same skin otherwise it will mess things up

I'm not sure we are talking about the same "client" system. Are you running a "thin" or "fat" client? I'm trying to get a "thin client" working. V3 seems to be very stable on the server side. When I try to start the thin client on a remote computer I get a screen flicker and then the display just goes back to the normal desktop and I see nothing from xLobby. In Windows Task manager I do see the xlobby2d.exe is running - but nothing appears on the screen.

I see in an earlier post that Wes said the setup is completely different and that they are working on an implementation update.

I'm excited about switching to ver. 3 but until I can get the client piece working I'll have to stay with the final ver. 2 release.

V3 is the client. Steven changed so the fat client is the client now. I don't even think the old thin client can connect to a V3. Haven't tried.

so fire up the fat V3 to use as a client. Its faster than he*

I just tried the old client with V3 and as expected it didn't connect. So this leaves V3 out of the picture again until EPG and client is fixed. Wes do u have any eta on the client documentantion and the EPG bug. I would love to start using V3 but it seems hard without the client and without EPG. I got so far that I figured out how to just play movie on the server, but how do u start the client in diff screens? or don't we use the ppc files anymore? What about .net compact framework, no more clients for thoose?

thanks in advance for any answer

Any update on thin client for version 3? I just got another touchscreen and I'm hoping to be able to upgrade to version 3 soon.
