Advise on Multiple CD Box Sets

Postby WannaTheater on Mon Sep 18, 2006 3:08 pm

I am looking for ways to handle multi-CD box sets (I am not using any catalogue software for CDs).

My current director structure is:
D:\Music\Artist\Album\tracks

So for a multi-cd, an example is
D:\Music\The Doors\The Best Of The Doors (1 of 2)\tracks
D:\Music\The Doors\The Best Of The Doors (2 of 2)\tracks

MP3s are tagged accordingly (Album has "1 of 2" and "2 of 2" in the tag). All coverart is being pulled from tags.

So when I use XL to import music in HeavyMetal skin, I (as expected) see two different CDs with the same artwork for The Best of The Doors (1 of 2) and (2 of 2). Is there a way to do a multi-level database, so on the first level I see only 1 entry for The Best Of The Doors, then clicking on it will show me the 2 individual CDs? I have several box sets that have 5 CDs...

I've tried the "directory structure option", but that doesn't really do what I want (as once you search by artist you get the same multiple entries for the same box set).

Thanks!

I used to have this problem too. (Box Sets) I realized I didnt really care if my databased really matched the physical disk architecture of tracks since I would be playing my music from the computer anywho. So I just took my multidisks and recoded the id3 track numbers to be 01,02,...12,13...34,35,36. One album, one cover, all the tracks. My musicdetails has a next page. Or I can always use my search feature to find the song.

Thanks for the response Colby. I've though about your method, and that is probably what I will do... unfortunately it will mean hand editing hundreds of track tags, (not just box sets, but EVERYTHING with more than 1 disc).

p.s. I've learned alot from your posts. Thanks!
