XL 3 on Server 2003 - Won't Start At All

Just rebuilt my server after a bad drive crash. Went with 2-500gig drives and Windows 2003 Standard Server. Drives in mirror.

Installed .Net 3.5 and applied SP1 to that. O/S has SP2 on it.

XL just crashes before getting even part of the way starting up. Never gets to my skin files. This is the error in the event log:

EventType clr20r3, P1 xlobby2.exe, P2 3.0.8350.4, P3 4945f4b3, P4 dshowplayer, P5 0.0.0.0, P6 49008c01, P7 65, P8 2, P9 system.nullreferenceexception, P10 NIL.

Running the latest 3.0 version.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think thats a directshow crash. Win server 2003 doesn't have video acc 100%, but I think u can get around it. think I saw something on the net about video acceleration on server. plus u need directx. V3 of Xlobby loads all that stuff at startup.

Thanks Lar but that did not resolve the issue. I also read that having Visual Studio installed could help to resolve the issue but that also did not help.

the last thing XL says when loading is "Sound" and then crashes. Same error in the event log after all the changes.

All the reading I have done points to a missing DLL(s). I have no idea which one a this point but will keep looking.

not sure this will make you feel any better - but, I'm running version3 on Server 2003 without any problems.....

seems like I had once had a similar problem and deleting the wav startup file fixed it.

You win the award! This actually worked. After moving all the .wav files out of the XL defaul skin, it started up fine. Man, I wasted way too much time on this chasing this issue for it to be so simple a fix.

just curious. can that machine play audio? I mean from inside xlobby?
why does it bail on a wav? wierd!

Well it used to when I used XP and XL 3.0. I have since been rebuilding with new drives and Server 03. No other hardware changed besides the drives.

Since I am reworking my skin, I will let you know about the audio.....
