PC Games Database

Postby krolrules on Fri Oct 08, 2004 4:36 am

I am a begginner with Xlobby, and I love it! Been using MyHtpc, and I will definitly migrate over.

I want to make a pc games section listing games I have installed on the PC. I can do this very easily by just creating a bunch of buttons on a screen with the skin editor, and then making executables for them in the setup.

However, I'd like to make a database instead, just for charactor and look, like if you were to do it to some roms. Easiest way I can find out how to do it, is to create batch or script files, and make a database out of those. Then, having the batch files played by command.com or cmd.com.

I've tried a few times, but can't seem to get the game to launch when either making an event when cliking on it, or the play button.

Also having the same problem in any games section for roms. The database is made just fine, and I can see all of the roms listed, with their names, and images. Cliking on the play button for that rom, just runs the emulator and not the rom.

Thoughts? Different ways to do this? :?

hy krolrules,
in he event manager , use an event "os: execute file".
File: put the roots to your exe pc game.
in Arguments: put your command line.

for the emulators, look at thoses topics:

This is very similar to the topic I posted a little while back. The topic has 88 views as of today but no responses. I know I had this working in the past with a previous rev but I can't seem to get it to work with the event manager part.....

OK people, I went home for lunch to try out the suggestions, and still no workie for me. Let me describe in more detail what I did, and what I need to have happen.

For my genesis roms, I created a database, as per instructions per the readme file for the Heavy Metal Skin.

Then, I made sure that on the genesis page, the catagory skin settings were correct, to have the roms displayed on my genesis page. Seeing how they were on the page correctly, I proceded on.

Then, I editied the "roms genesis" execute file to point to the executable to lauch the genesis games.

What I have at this point is this...

1. When clicking on the rom picture, the emulator opens up and the game does not load.

2. Same things happens when pressing the "PLAY" button. Emulator loads without the rom.

How can I get the rom to load when I click on it? I've tried to use the file type, arguments such as "%games>name% and still no workie.

Specific examples would be nice...

HELP!!!!!!

Ive made rom databases with no problem so far. I dont know what else you've tried or what others suggested but this is what I did:

I created databases of my roms, Nintendo roms have the parameter: C:\whatever\rom name.nes
I associated .nes files with the particular emulator I use. Then I can click the thumb of the game on the skin and play it using a category>execute event.

It wasnt that difficult. Im sure you will have other questions though.
