Multimonitor control support

Postby tsjdesign on Sun Jan 30, 2005 7:03 pm

I've got Xlobby set up now so that my plasma display is on the primary monitor head (because I need tv to show up correctly), and a small LCD (designed for car use) with a touchpad overlay which receives the feed from the monitor 2 head. I'm using an nvidia 6600agp card.

The problem I am trying to tackle is this - I want the lcd, which is mounted in the wall, to turn off after 1 min inactivity, but want the primary monitor to remain on always. Then when I first touch the touchscreen I want the lcd to turn back on.

Basically I want the wall lcd to opperate like a pocket pc would - turn itself off after inactivity and come back on upon touch of screen.

Any ideas how to make this happen using xlobby, windows, and my video card?

Thanks! Todd

you cant do that in windows power management? if its not built in for dual monitor power man support for turning off after inactivity, then im sure google can find a utility for you.

Just thoughts, i have not tryed this...
If you add a blank button in front of all your screens (i think colby have one for download) that covers the hole screens and add a evet that goes something like this:
1: send ir, x10 or simular comande to turn small lcd on
2: timer for 1 min
3: send ir, x10 or simular comande to turn small lcd off

You need to have a evet to turn your lcd on and off but when you have that fixed this "script" will start counting every time you touch the screen and if you dont touch it it will turn off after one minute

This will do what you want if you add some money to it...

thanks for the replies!

Vintage - windows power settings only effect the primary monitor. There are utilities that allow the settings to effect all monitors, but not direct which monitor is effected (ie turn off monitor 2 but leave monitor one on, which is what I want).

Rika - I will test the blank button method... I don't know how a button over the other buttons will effect the other buttons functionality.... perhaps creating an overlay screen which pops up as soon as the monitor is turned off, and dissapears as soon as it is pressed and turns the monitor on...

I will download the ultramon trial as well to see if something in it will help

Keep ideas coming if you've got them!

Thx! Todd

You can scratch off UltraMon. I contacted their support desk. Here is a copy of the email:

Is it possible to configure different screen saver/blanking time-outs for each monitor? I have a dual monitor set up consisting of a large main CRT monitor and a smaller LCD touch screen monitor. I would like the touch screen monitor to sleep when not in use but keep the main monitor active. Is this possible with your product?

UltraMon currently doesn't support this, but this feature will be considered for UltraMon 3.
