strange problem

Postby capecodscot on Thu Jan 12, 2006 12:44 am

:?:
I don't know if anyone else has experiencd this issue but I cannot seem to solve it. I have a fair bit of experience with xlobby but I recently installed it on a new build with no apparent problem unitl playing music (or indeed anything to do with sound). When selecting an album to play it goes through the motions correctly but no sound ensues. When I go to the start up page I can see the correct album selected but no movement on the progress bar (and no sound). After completely re-installing and general messing about if I launch xlobby, minimize it and then open another instance everything works perfectlu - multizone, zoomplayer etc.

I would really welcome some input on this as I really do not understand this.

Thanks in advance,

An X-Meedio X-Pert

Is your problem only sound?
What skin are you using?
What are you playing through, Winamp?

Make sure the player path/ zones are correctly setup in f2. Also make sure XL is actually launching the player, and you are not manually launching. Are entries adding to the playlist?
(or indeed anything to do with sound).

Is the sound dead for music only or zoomplayer or button sounds as well?

P.S.
Why are you Xmeedio?

Thanks for your timely response.

I have tried different skins. Player is Winamp configured coorectly under F2. Same problem with Zoomplayer and buttons. Also even when I can get it working by double launching as soon as I try to modify the sound in any way (ie. change volume or track.), the pc freezes accompanied by a horrible continuous buzzing sound. I have to restart the computer. This action is exactly the same when Zoomplayer is running.

I sit possible that this is a corrupt version? I am reluctant ot change if possible a sI have spent considerable time in re-configuring the skin I like (Heavymetal Carbon Fiber WS) but as I said it is the same with your skin (which I aslo really like) and others.

Strange,

I might be having the same thing happen here....I just installed XL on a new machine and concentrated on getting the movies to play and they play just fine. Totally forgot to try music so when I did, it does not start playing. I am using Winamp and I think it is configured correctly but it must not be because it does not display any change when playback starts....for example the time does not advance.

What parameters do I have to add in file types to get Winamp to work?

Just one zone....one soundcard. It is the older version of XL on a win2k box.....I am trying the latest version right now to see if it will work but it doesn't look good. Keeps coming up with the "unhandled exception" error on startup and then just quits loading......

I can't seem to get the latest version to run on 2k....but that seems to be another problem.....

fizzasist - What version of Free XL and what version of Winamp. There were a couple of times in the past when NullSoft made an update to Winamp and FreeXL would no longer be able to 'hook' in to it at startup (ie Winamp would launch, but Xlobby could not pass music to it - it was a timing issue if I remember correctly).

I know the last Free XL is working with Winamp 5.X up to at least 5.35 (I haven't tried the recently released v5.5). So double check your versions and maybe try a different version of Winamp just in case.

good luck,

Guess I spoke too soon.....it was working with Winamp 5.05 but it would only play about 5 songs and then it would show each song for a few seconds and then go onto the next!

I tried upgrading to Winamp 5.5 but it did not help.....I don't remember what parameters to put in under file types to get it to work but I thought I had it.....

Hey, if your music is just in mp3 format, there really is no advantage of using winamp version 5 (with regards to xlobby). Use 2.94 (or is it 2.95??). From a control standpoint, xlobby does not take advantage of anything that the new versions of winamp offer. I can't speak on file types though.

The only time you really need to run a newer version...and by that being version 5 and above, is if you are wanting to use the multi-output plugin. It just dosen't seem to want to work with version 2.xx .

Hope this helps.

That's kinda how I feel too.....I don't see any reason to upgrade unless there are some can't-live-without features added......

I think I got it working ok now......it was in the parameters......Thanks for the help!

Glad you're OK but I'm puzzled now.
I've never spec'd any params in file types for Winamp on either XL free or the commercial version. It's just worked. I'm currently using the latest WA release and loving the features it brings to XL.

The problem has returned and the previous fix is not working......

I had to re-install XL because I kept getting the unhandled exceptions on startup.....

Winamp does not play anything now......ARG!
