Parental Control

Postby sharp_1 on Tue Mar 28, 2006 5:16 pm

I would like to see a way of having parental control of my movies by rating. I think the way BaddaBing's got his setup is great but not the easiest and best way to go about it.

Let's protect our kids from the R and UR stuff.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think this can be done using 'custom search', and pw-protected screens...

make one screen for kid movies (filters out R, UR).
make another screen which has a pw, but no filter.

Sounds like the best solution for now to me too.

Great idea a06lp...I got the custom search to work but I can only get one rating to filter at a time. I have tried to filter more than one rating at a time ie: g, pg, pg-13.

This works:

This does not work:

Any help would be great. Thanks!!

you could add a tag like say "kids" to the database via variable set. Then mark those movies with the tag. Then custom search for kids movies.

Colby:
Yes I was thinking about that...but wouldn't I loose the tags when I refresh data from my dvdprofiler database (collection.xml) import?

Yes, I have the same problem, since I refresh from Ant Movie Catalog... only way would be to somehow store that info in Ant/profiler.

Thanks dalanik...I saved a catagory named "accessories" under genre that was available when you edit a movie in DVD Profiler. I added it to all my G, PG and PG-13 rated stuff then created another movie screen called family_movies. I password protected my movies screen which has all my R and UR rated stuff I don't want the kids to get at without having to created two separate databases. When you click on the movies button in the menu screen you goto the family_movie screen, then on the family_movies screen I have a button called "browse all movies" which, when selected, pops up the "password" screen and tada.

Works great!!!

The only issue I am having with a custom search is the fact that when I go back to the family screen the entire screen reloads the movies from the beginning istead of from where I left off.

My situation:
1) Goto movie screen which is a custom search for just family rated material.
2) Select movie detail
3) Go back to movie screen and I get all restricted movies instead of back to family rated stuff
4) Made the back/cancel movie detail button goto family movie screen but now the movies are reset from the beginning.

I would love to be able to have one database that I could filter family content to one screen and password protect the mature content to another.

*If I could somehow create a query for more than one rating under custom search that would help me greatly too.
