Overlay control problems

Postby mrTr0ut on Fri Nov 03, 2006 7:01 am

Hello, I'm setting up xlobby pretty much for the first time and I ran into some what of a problem.
When an overlay screen comes up I can no longer navigate the screen(can't go down,up,left..ect), for example under music I select an album and an overlay with the list of songs comes up and then I can no longer highlight any buttons/songs. Only way it works is if I move my mouse over one of the songs in the list then I'm able to move up/down with my remote.

Here is some information about my setup:
XLobby build:September 13, 2006
Skin:BluezSkin_Widescreen
Girder:4.0.14

I'm using girder to "SendMeassge" to the navigation commands.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Could be that the navigation was never set up for that overlay. You can check this:

1) go out from that overlay (you can't be in overlays and open the skin editor)

2) press pause/break to open the skin editor

3) select the Goto tab and pick your overlay to goto, your screen should now switch to the overlay screen in question.

4) go through the buttons to see if one was selected to be the default start button. This can be seen on the Default tab, and is the check box called "Default". I'm not to sure what happens if Xlobby doesn't have a default button, not to sure if it just picks one, or not.

5) Select the Navigation tab.

6) Select a button, the follow the instructions outlined on that page. Do this for all the buttons.

7) Once done, select another screen to goto, something other than an overlay screen and then close down the skin editor. You won't be able to navigate to another screen if you close the editor in an overlay.

Hopefully your good to go.

Hope this was helpful.

Thanks for the reply, I'm a little lost on the Navigation tab. The instructions say to "Click set, a direction button, then click a button on the skin to assign."

I click set, then Up, now this is the part I'm confused on,..after clicking Up I tried to click a button on the actual skin and nothing happened. Then I tried click a button in the Default tab and nothing happened.

Oh, this wasn't outlined in the skin editor/nav instructions, and I forgot about this step. Once completed in setting up navigation, click on the "Stop" button (which replaces the set). If you don't do this, then the editor is still in navigation set mode.

Now concerning not being able to click on a button. Before clicking on Set, did you select a button to set navigation on?

You select your button, click on set, click on the direction, then click on the button you want to goto. That button should then have a GREEN dotted line around it. Then click on another direction, then a button...a GREEN dotted line should then be around that button.

Once your done setting up navigation for a button, click on stop. If you want to set up navigation for another button, select it, then click on set again and do the above steps again. Remember to Stop the navigation setup when complete.

To test your navigation, once you click on stop. Select a button, then click on one of the nav buttons (UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT). A GREEN dotted line will be shown around the particular button that you've setup to "navigate" to.

I hope this is more clear for you.

Sorry about the mis-understanding in my previous post.

Ok, I figured the navigation screen out, but unforunately this still hasn't solved my problem :( . I'm still not able to cycle through album tracks(or do anything else) without moving my mouse over the actual overlay itself.

But, I just had an idea..I tried navigating overlays in the default xlobby skin and that works fine. So, it must have something to do with this other skin I'm using.

marbles,
thanks for the great explanation of setting up the navigation on overlays, I was just not getting it to work, after following your steps, my navigation now works as I need it to using direction keys with no mouse.

Well, I tried out the KISS skin and that worked alright. Do you think it has anything to do with girder perhaps? Or could it be just the skin itself, I'm using bluezkin_widescreen?

I haven't found out your problem yet, but I see what your talking about. I did notice on the album select that the spider button is missing the spider-enter.png file. Colby will have to add this.

I tried to set the exit button as default, then reset/change the navigation and get the same thing (previous default was on the category itself). Colby may have to chime into this post.

I've asked him in a post in the skin section to look at the spider button, and also directed him to this post. Hopefully he can add his insight.

Hope this all helps.
