Simpler skin ?

Postby johan_fall on Mon Jul 31, 2006 7:10 am

The skins I have tried in my opinion includes too many functions compared to my needs.... When I choose movies I just want to see the movies in the actual directory (a text-list without a lot of graphics like covers etc) and start to play one of them. Same thing with music... I just want to see what's in the directory and be able to pick out a playlist from that listing... Is there any skin that's more simple like that ?

Yes, its called windows explorer.
A skin is a gui (GRAPHICS user interface) Xlobby is a front end, or a gui. If you dont care about graphics why use xlobby?

The beauty of Xlobby is that you can tailor it to your likings. I don't believe such a skin exists, but you can easily do it yourself. Take a reading on the skinning guides and you should be on your way.

of course i care about graphics... I want to have a nice looking shell appearing on my tv ... where I can choose to play a movie or some music... I just want to have it a little more simple skipping the part with the covers and so ... ?

Easy enough to dump the covers and just use a text listing.

1. Open up the skin editor (Pause/Break key).
2. Use the Goto tab to navigate to the screen you want to edit.
3. Click on the section of screen containing the covers. You should see a light green marquee selected.
4. Under the Item > Category > Layout tab in the Skin Editor, choose one of the two "nocover" options.
5. Use the fields just above (Columns, Ratio, etc.) as well as Item>Display>Font to tailor the look of the list to your liking. If you see a Green "Resource" notification pop up when you select the category, you will need to go under Item > Display > Resource and "Unset" it or you will change all the other instances of that resource as well.

Keep in mind that this is not the same thing as having a simple Windows-style file directory in your skin. You will still need to Import and create a proper database. If all you want is a file directory, delete that category and go to Screen > Add and use the Browse button under Folder Browser to Add. However, this will lose you Xlobby's File Types and built-in music control and you will have to rely on Windows file associations for playback.

Hope that helps.
