ASIO Exit problem

Postby gingellr on Sun Jun 06, 2004 4:05 pm

Hello,

As a new user to xlobby let me say i think it is a great program.

I have found a problem with it (well on my pc anyway). If i run xlobby everything works fine, if i then quit, then run xlobby again no music will play.

This is due to out_asio.exe still running in the process list, if i end that process music plays fine again.

If i just start and stop winamp without using xlobby everything is fine so it does appear to be a xlobby linking to winamp issue, or could it be something else?

Thanks

Richard

you have winamp set up in xlobby zone correctly?
(f2>general tab>add>browse & locate winamp.exe)
this is how Xlobby communicates with winamp

if i then quit, then run xlobby again no music will play.

is winamp starting on xlobby launch?
is volume up, and output correct?

what is out_asio.exe ?

thanks for your reply.

I have xlobby set up for winamp correctly.
Winamp starts and stops fine with xlobby everytime and volume is set.

ASIO is a plugin used in winamp to bypass windows xp kmixer audio control to get much better sound quality. Winamp automatically runs and stops on exit out_asio.exe (which is the plugin).

If i use xlobby, it starts winamp ok, which runs out_asio.exe, if i quit xlobby winamp quits but out_asio.exe is still running, so next time winamp starts via xlobby or on its own it will not play anything as it tries to run out_asio.exe again which is already running.

If i manually stop out_asio.exe then run xlobby again everything works fine.

Richard,

Maybe you can help me now! I've been using XLobby since it first came out but I don't know how to get the best audio...I posted the following to AVS but no response...

Setting up Delta 410 for best audio quality across multiple stereo pairs
Help!

I am about to configure my server to also be an XLobby music server for whole house audio. My configuration:

Hardware:
P4 2.4G / 1GB 3200 ECC / Supermicro P4SCT+II MB / 2 MAudio Delta 410's
Will use RCA outs from the two audio cards to feed multiple amplifiers in 8 zones

Software:
Windows XP Pro
Xlobby Latest and Greatest build 40.x
8x Winamp 5.x (one for each zone)

Media:
CD's EAC ripped to FLACs

I will be configuring Winamp using the first 410's 4 stereo outputs to feed zones 1~4 using the Winamp direct sound output driver and the second 410's 4 stereo outputs to feed zones 5~8 using the Winamp Waveout driver (some bug not doesn't seem to allow you to use the direct sound driver across both sound cards...although if someone knows how I'd love to hear it!).

I would like to ensure I get the best quality playback across all zones. I think I need ASIO to do this but truely I have now idea what I need to do to reproduce the best sound...can I get some advice, input, etc that would help me to set up Winamp to get the best possible stereo playback.

thanks,

mv

Any input? And what ASIO Dll are you using and where did you get it?

thanks,

Hi jmv,

Your right with your conversion EAC then FLAC is the best way to go.

There is a big increase in quality if you use the ASIO driver its really noticable, i use highend Tag amps/processor.

The ASIO driver that is recomended and works well is here [url=http://www3.cypress.ne.jp/otachan/] dont worry that its a japaneese site. The section you want is 4. Winamp5 then click on the out_asio (dll version). Put the rquired dll in the plugins folder in winamp then run winamp and seletc it.

Hopefully that helps.

Richard,

I downloaded the ASIO plug in and when it unzips, it unzips in 4 flavors (Normal, SSE, SSE2, SSE3)...which should I use and what are the differences? I tried using normal, and I couldn't get any sound out of my system. When I went to Winamp and tried to configure the ASIO plug in, it didn't allow me to select the device (just a blank box)...any other advice?

The sound card also has to have an asio driver installed for the asio plugin to work.

I have an M-audio dio 2496 the drivers off their web site will install the asio driver. I have not used a 410 before but it apears to be the same drivers to mine so would think it supports asio too.

Which driver version are you using for your sound card, i would try the latest 1.0.0.4 and see if that works ok.

SSE is the archetecture that the pentium processor supports some details that explain it are here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSE
Any of the dll's should work on the latest P4.

John,

Your doing what I want to do...stereo pairs out of multiple 410's. I know you went the DirectX/Wave route...are you going to give ASIO a shot?

I still get the same error when I try to select asio in winamp 2.9 saying that asio can not be started....?

This is just one of my zones run in isolation, whene I try to selct the souncard in the output/preferences/asio section of winamp, only maudio delta asio shows up, whether this will allow all the channels to have been selected.....

Dont take me as an expert on this, I'm fumbling my way here...

You change the output channels by the "shift output channels" setting in the asio config.

Again cant speak for your cards, but on mine i have an offset of 2 which outputs direct to the spdif channel by passing the m-audio mixer.

I use winamp5. With the latest drivers with no problems.
