Using USB-UIRT to control XL and ZP

Using USB-UIRT to control XL and ZP

Postby erikt on Sat Mar 12, 2005 3:57 am

I just got my USB-UIRT, and had no trouble figuring out how to learn
the codes of my remote, create appropriate events, and assign the
IR triggers to these commands. What I need to do next is figure out
how to control Zoomplayer by remote, while a movie is playing.

I see how I can accomplish the pure control aspect using Girder.
However if I do this, I can't use the same buttons (e.g. Play) since
XL will interpret this and start playing my playlist while ZP begins to
play my DVD. Is there away, within Xlobby, to control either the
music player or the media player, depending on context?

If not, what typically have people done? It looks like I would have to
abandon the XL USB-UIRT plugin and have everything go through Girder.
Seems like a pain that someone would have figured out and solved.

Thanks in advance.

What I've done, in case it helps -- I use girder but to make it less complicated, I use a universal remote and taught girder to recognize the DVD device commands coming from the remote to control ZP, and so on. So on my remote I have an xlobby device to navigate xlobby, then when I launch a movie I select the DVD device on the remote and it'll then control ZP, etc. Girder is set up to just send all the commands to whatever window has focus.

As you can see I just did pretty much the simplest thing possible. Wanted to get everything working before I did anything complicated, but found the simple approach to work just fine.

Yeah, I considered that, that's a good suggestion. I could do the same (and
probably will for now), but the WAF is severely decreased by this option.

What we need to simplify this is an "if" statement in an Event description.
If Zoomplayer is running, send command X to ZP, else send command Y to
XL. Anyone else feel this would be worthy of a feature request?

Hi

I agree we need more options like that

I would like to use the buttons on my remote to control xlobby depending on the screen you are on

So the same IR command from the remote would trigger different events depending on current screen

That would be really useful

There are already button commands in Xlobby that control Zoomplayer without the use of Girder. You would use those buttons to control Zoomplayer. Does that help?
Also, I have different "remote control" screens for my different devices. So my remote control screen for my external DVD player is a different screen than my Zoomplayer remote control screen.
Please ask more questions if you're still struggling with this.

Remote control

Postby timwarner on Sun Mar 13, 2005 9:23 am

Hi

The remote control I am using is the one that comes as standard with my my Sky + PVR

http://www.avukltd.com/remotecontrolsearch.php?item_id=19273&action=send_details

This remote can control the PVR and a TV. I wanted to use the play, stop, rwd, ffw and the arrow/select buttons that are not needed for controlling the TV to control Xlobby.

I have got this working very sucessfully but the IR command from the remote trigger events such as music play, music next track etc. What I wanted to do was for Xlobby to respond diffferently depending on the screen it is currently on.

e.g.
The same command would always be received when play is pressed but if xlobby was on a music screen it would play music, if it was on a picture screen it would start a photo slideshow and if it was on a movie page it would play a movie.

Does this make sense

I would love to find a way to do this

Can a girder event triggered from homeseer for example trigger an event in xlobby?
Then xlobby could tell homeseer what page it is on and have the IR routed though homeseer?
Ideas would be gratefully received.

hjackson: I know I can control ZP inside Xlobby, what I want to do is have
the same remote button (for e.g. Play) control both the XL music player,
and ZP, depending on context (i.e. am I playing a movie or not).

timwarner expressed the feature well. We need a way for events to
have some knowledge of context, i.e. what page is currently being
viewed.

Time to move this to Feature Requests?
