DVD Profiler - I can't believe it's still broken!!!!!!!

Postby byellin on Thu Oct 11, 2007 11:53 pm

Does anyone know who is responsible for the DVD Profiler import code? This has been broken for way way too long. What it the problem? Who is going to fix it? Workarounds are clumsy. If Xlobby has a "refresh" button it should either work or be removed from the code. This is a critical feature for some of us, and I, for one, am getting really tired of having to manually massage the data base to get new DVD's in. Am I the only one out there that feels this way?

The free version of xLobby will not be supported by steven so you are stuck with the code the way it is.

Luckily, jovial_mood has a great dvdprofiler 3.x convertion utility that converts your collection.xml and places a completed dxc_movies.xml into the database folder for use in xLobby. Remember: You will need to point your movie screen to the dxc_movies.xml database.

Open your skin editor while you are in the movie screen>select your movie covers so they are highlighted>go to item tab>category>database and select the dxc_movies data. You may have to change the sort order for it to look right but its all there.

Here is a screendump of how it should look:

Does anyone have another link to the XML conversion utility from jovialmood? I can't seem to connect to the web site to get it downloaded.
Thanks.

sharp_1 , THANKS!!!!!! You're awesome. The utility works like a charm. I used the parameter database field to keep the hard disk location of the movies, as I use a couple of hard drives to store my stuff. When dI manually change this field , and then used the old native "REFRESH" function, it would leave this field alone. Will this utility preserve that, or will I have to change it every time? I suppose, I'll have to write a utility to stuff it back in sometime if not. Do you know a better way to do this? Once again - a million thanks!

byellin: No problem...I don't know if the data will change on refresh...let me know. I use the location and slot info with my dvd megachanger, but I can see having to go to a solution like yours in the future.

sharp_1,

Until I write a utility, it's possible to only export only flagged profiles from dvd profiler. That way I can add a single DVD to the collection, then flag only the one I added, and then export flagged DVDs, which makes a file of one profile. Then run this through the utility to convert the XML to xlobby compatible format, but use separate file name such as single_dxc as a holding area, opposed to movies_dxc. Then just open the holding area with notepad, cut the converted profile and paste it into the end of movies_dxc - tah dah - one movie added without disturbing the other records. It's a bit tedious, but I usually add one at a time and this will work.

sharp_1,

I finally got what you were saying about location and slot. These fields will definitely work, I just have to go in and update the profiles with their hard disk location. I seems that you can select fields in the conversion utility that don't get brought across, but "disc_location" worked fine. Now the only issue I am having is that some profiles don't include a disc entry, which is required to input location, and I am having a bear of a time figuring out how to add a disc to a profile if it isn't in there already. Did you figure this out? Any help would be appreciated.

You will need to make sure you have each DVD personalized with disc information as shown on my help page here. Disc ID is not needed.

sharp_1,

I found the place to add a disc if it isn't already in the profile - and now using the "disc1_location" field for my hard disk location, and %movies_dxc>disc1_location% in my argument fields when I start theatertek up as a new xlobby event. Now I just have to edit all those profiles and add a disc if it's missing so I can input this variable. I'm half way there - already personalized 150 titles. Your help has been invaluable. Thanks again!!!!!

Thanks Sharp_1.

Works beautifully. I was having to go thru a three step process to convert it back to the original DVD Profiler output.
