xlobby for HTPC

Postby dnewma04 on Wed Dec 15, 2004 2:29 am

Hello All,

Excuse my lack of technical knowledge with regards to xlobby but I have been searching for a product that will allow me to use a HTPC as a pre/pro. What I am encountering is that the current state of the HTPC seems to be as a source to connect to a receiver. In my mind, this seems to negate some of the advantages a true HTPC should have.

Ideally, I was thinking of using a M-Audio Delta 1010LT to give me 4 stereo inputs and 7.1 output capabilities.

Would I be able to use xlobby as the preamp for a system like this?

Thanks for the reply. I have been trying to figure out how this would work.

http://melonheadaudio.com/images/mark/p ... system.jpg

that picture is what the proposed system would look like from the audio side. The gray box represents the Delta 1010 LT sound card. I just wanted to make it clear that sources outside of media stored or played on the PC will be used. In all likelyhood, i would send the s/pdif output from the cable/sat box into the input on the sound card.

If xlobby can do the source switching, I'm may need some pointers.

I've been working with xlobby for a month now. From my perspective, XLobby is merely the glue that holds together and controls alot of other software. There are some things it can do on its own, or through the use of plugins, but it doesn't do much of the HT or audio.

In my case, Winamp with ASIO does audio playback (I use ogg and flac). Zoomplayer does the DVD playback (from either Rips or source DVDs).

The person you want to contact is over on AVSforum.com ElvisIncognito. Here's the pertinent thread http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=235923

From what I remember, the current answer is still: No, as long as you want to have other components in your system pushing sound through the PC.

Good luck, perhaps things have changed.

I have read that thread the precursor to it from a year ago, or so. I know the software I am looking for is under development but wont be due for release for a while.

I was afraid I may run into a deadend again....

My quest continues. :)

EDIT: That was the older thread, there is a more recent one that is similar.

I only remembered Elvis' name, so I looked at his profile, and that was listed as the thread he started.

One thing I don't understand is why you would want either a DVD player or CD player to feed the HTPC. The improvements are so much greater using the HTPC as source on these devices, and it's far easier. If you don't want to run a huge array for holding all that data, you could always grab some Powerfile C200's off ebay. ;)

Good Luck.
