xLobby Visualization Effect

This is just a visual sample of a audio visualization that is generated radomly, the bars will decrease or increase with the main volume setting. Use the Shift + Insert keys to activate it and disable it or use the ESC key to leave the screen. Music needs to be playing in order for this effect to work. This works in all V3 releases.

We will eventually have a real audio visualizer that is tied to the internal media player that tracks audio frequency and level. I will post on this subject when we have somehing completed.

there are quite a few open source type apps (and a few pay ones) that simply link in milkdrop, have you guys looked into that?

for example theartertk uses milkdrop as a visulation when you play back music thro it (so does the medio os replacement)...

the truth is that milkdrop is still miles better than the other visuisations out there.

the main benifit of an interal vis comes if you can make it run as a skin backgound. it can look quite good (i am thinking of one i saw on a xbmc skin).

are you planning on it being able to run like this (with text etc overlaid on top of the vis)?

you would also need the option of "dimming" it, bt i an look nic

I have to agree with Sean, milkdrop is the holy grail of visualization plug-ins and I would love to see it incorporated into XL. Not to take anything away from SteveHanna, but visualization programming requires an entirely different set of programming skills from what is involved in XL. There are entire websites dedicated to the mathmatics and equations that make milkdrop work the way it does. Don't re-invent the wheel, use what is out there and leave Steve to do what he does best, which is XL.

it would still be nice to have a built in one which can run "under" text boxes, images etc. :)

It is not that it wouldn't be nice to have, the point I am trying to make is that there are perfectly good free software packages the Calrad team can leverage that won't take development time away from more critical tasks such as getting XLv3 stable and all basic functions working

Milkdrop would be nice (provided it could be done with a plugin that didn't take too much time to integrate into V3)
