Creating an event to kill a process (VLC)

Postby kerian on Wed Nov 22, 2006 4:46 am

As a newbie writing an event looks somewhat confusing even with the Skins editor tutorial but here's what I'm trying to do - I'm using VLC to play movies from the movie menu and it will quit back to Xlobby when the movie is finished thanks to info from another post but I want it to quit VLC when I press S (to stop) on the keyboard. At the moment it only quits back to the VLC console. How do you set up an event to use the OS kill command then assign it to the S key. If I can see it step by step then I maybe I'll begin to understand how the Event manager works.

thanks for any info on a great product

I use VLC myself and when I play my movies in full screen as default in the VLC settings, I have setup VLC to exit when I press the "Q" button. By default, I think it is CTRL-Q. You can modify this by open VLC and selecting "Settings/Preferences". Then select "interface/Hotkeys". Instead of just stopping the movie, you should quit the application. These settings are definable and just select the key strokes you want.

Only downside to to this is that to play the movie again, you need to use xlobby to select it and start from the begining of the movie.

Hope this helps>>>>
