Turn pc on with remote control

Postby Dj Elmo on Sat Nov 25, 2006 10:44 am

Hi all

Is there anyway plugin or something available that lets you turn your PC on with a remote?

Thanks

If you are using S1 or S3 (can't remember which) to suspend your pc then I think you can wake up the pc via usb - although I've never tried this.

Doing it from cold though is a different matter. The only remote solution I've seen is the Imon setup which physically links to the power sockets on your motherboard. I've just started to mod my case with the Imon receiver and my Harmony remote, hopefully I will just get the harmony to learn the power button on the Imon remote - don't need the rest of the functionality of Imon as I use the MS remote stuff for everything else.

Also (atleast some) IRtrans modules achieve this by physicly plugin to powercable of mobo.

Another option is, if u have WOL / WOR capable setup to build UIRT2, u can find instructions over net, also if u r electronically handicapped u can order ready assembled units with ashtonishingly low cost.

If you have a usbuirt you can set 4 different ir codes into it memory so that any 1 of the 4 can bring the pc out of standby , poss even hibernate.

Many motherboard BIOSes allow for boot on keystroke. Look in your BIOS manual of the motherboard. If so, then select a key (say spacebar) and the PC will boot when you hit it. To get thisinto your remote I've gotten a cheap IR (not wireless) keyboard and I use it to send the IR codes (eg. spacebar) to my remote to LEARN.

Yup, this is what my Imon does. It's about the only thing it's good for.
