Help with 200 Disc (Firewire) DVD Changers

Postby guile on Fri Dec 14, 2007 4:10 pm

I did read that some people had success with the Sony unit, but the instructions were not very intuitive. What is the easiest way to run either the Sony 200 Disc DVD changer and/or the Powerfile C200 unit with Xlobby? While I am still running a "free" version of Xlobby, if there was native support for these units, I would considering buying the software for sure. Btw, running XP Media Center (2005) here.

I bought the changer but haven't hooked it into xlobby yet. Also I'm not running XP Media Center, just plain XP. I mention this because the drivers for the device require MCE. So I'm using the alternate method described on Sharp_1's help pages. See here;
http://xlobby.help.googlepages.com/sony ... gp-xl1b%29

And although I haven't integrated the changer with xlobby, I did have success while testing it from the command line.

Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks for the reply Aaron. How would I get Xlobby to see the command line requests? Let's say I have a particular movie I want to watch through Xlobby, how would I set that parameter in the movie database? Woul I be creating bat files for something like this? Thanks again man, really appreciate it.

A batch file is what I'm planning to do. But I haven't looked into the details. But since you asked I looked again at Sharp_1's help pages. He has the Sony 777 DVD changer. Which happens to have a serial port, and can be controlled from the command line as well. Here's his page describing that technique;
http://xlobby.help.googlepages.com/dvp- ... angersetup

So looking at it I suspect something very similar could be setup that uses the Mediachanger.exe instead of the sony_cx777es.exe that is used in that example.

Hopefully after the first of the year, I'll get a chance to get mine setup.

I was looking at that too (thanks again). Problem is...dvd profiler won't see the media changer (well, it does see a dvd player, but won't see anything in the slots). Now if I could just get dvdprofiler to work with the media changer, I might be set. Any ideas?

Have you had a look at this plugin for DVD Profiler? http://www.invelos.com/Forums.aspx?task=viewtopic&topicID=166395
It's designed to work with the SONY VAIO VGPXL1B1/2/3, Dacalâ„¢ Carousel, and Sony CX777ES. I have not tried it myself but may be of use.

Thanks for that. I guess I really must be a dope because I have tried everything with that plugin and no success.

I am still playing around with the plugin but no success. Native support for these changers (within Xlobby) really should be implemented as I think it would be a great selling point. I'm sure there are other people with these changer who are using Xlobby as a front end. Hopefully, some kind soul can create a simple turorial on how to do it. ANY help is appreciated.
