New user - cant get pictures to show on pocketpc

Postby kirneh on Sat May 29, 2004 5:55 am

First let me say how great i thing this piece of software is. Just amazing.
I have a couple of problems though.
I have it installed on my pc and on my ipaq. I can control the music on my pc from my ipaq (using bluetooth). But i thought that the program on the pc should do the same as the program on my ipaq. I mean if i choose the music category from the ipaq, that the pc should show the same screen ? If i wanna browse pictures on the ipaq, i want them to show up on the television.

my 2. problem is that even though i can see my pictures on the PC version, they dosent show on the PPC. Only a black screen.

Regards Henrik

Hi Henrik!

I can help you with the first problem. On the ipaq menu screen there should be a mimic button. To have the PC screens follow what you're doing you need to first press the mimic button. In the default skin the mimic button appears in the top right corner of the ppc screen.

As far as viewing pictures on your ipaq, I don't think XLobby is set up to do this by default, but I'm sure it can be done.

Someone with more experience setting up PPC screens should be able to help you there.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply Roscoe, thats just what i was looking for.

When i show my family the pictures on the tv screen, i want to control the pictures on the ppc, and then show them the pictures on the tv.

Oh OK! Sorry, my misunderstanding.

Unfortunately I'm not a user of the picture slideshow feature yet so I can't really offer much support there, but hopefully selecting mimic should sort out your problem.

If it doesn't, post back and hopefully someone who does use pictures will chime in to help you.

Cheers

The mimic dosent help me.
The screen is still blank on my PPC. The pc shows all the pictures, but there is nothing on the ppc.

Ok, I think I have a hunch at why this is not working.

How does your Ipaq connect via bluetooth. Are you using active sync, or have you paired your PPC to the remote PC with a bluetooth dongle.

Test number 1, can you sucesfully ping your pocket pc. I know this is very basic stuff, but depending on how your ipaq is talking via bluetooth, results can be wierd.

What dongle are you using, and what WIDCOMM drivers are you using. Only the newest WIDCOMM drivers will traffic TCP-IP correctly.

Oh yeah, dont think because you can surf means that your PPC is pingable especially if you are using activesync. There is a serious flaw in the WIDCOMM TCP-IP stack, that has been corrected.

I have a hunch that xlobby simply isnt rerouting the images back to your PPC

My ipaq is connected with a bluetooth dongle in my pc. I then make a network connection with the pc.
I dont know how exactly how to ping my ppc. Dont know what ip it haves.
But the music part of Xlobby does work. I can see all of my music in Xlobby on the Ipaq. So my guess would be that the connection is ok. But that might not be true.

Hi,

Yes, the music part will work.

What you absolutely need to do is give the pocketpc an ip address. I know it seems weird that everything else is working ok, but as a user of netremote, i was having simular problems until i set up the pocket pc's network correctly, which must include the following:

- Pocket pc must have a set IP address, manually entered 192.168.1.xxx for example

- pocket pc must be paired with the desktop pc, and veryfied via a small red check mark in the bluetooth connections manager.

- the lastest bluetooth WIDCOMM drivers installed, depending on your blue tooth hardware, this can be a pain.

- If your running xp, bridge the bluetooth device to the network adaptor, this will allow you to get faster, more robust internet to your pocket pc.

Trust me, this will probably solve this problem.

Well i have tryed to use the guide but then my PC internet connection dosent work.

But i have a hard time beliving that this is the problem (sorry :-) ) I can use Netremote and Girder together np.

To sum up.
I xlobby on my PPC i can see all my music, i can see all my dvd's (with covers) but i cant see my pictures. The screen is just black, and only have the back button.
If i try and use PPC skin/view on my desktop pc in xlobby i have the same problem. The screen is also just black here with the back button. I use the standart theme BTW.

Can someone help please ?

It seems the default ppcpictures screen has no picture category in it. A quick look through the skins on this forum reveals that none of the heavy hitters among the skin engineers use a ppc :)

You can just add one using the skin editor. Goto screen - select ppcpictures. Screen tab - Add category tab - type pictures and Create Custom Category. You should see a text listing of all your pics. Now on the Edit Category tab you can adjust it to suit yourself - tick Enable in the thumbnail section to show the pics.

Here's the contents of a simple ppcpictures.xml that should do the trick.

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<skin background="">
<skinsize>1360,768</skinsize>

<eventbutton>
<imagename>ppcblue.jpg</imagename>
<location>0,0,240,320</location>
<navitem>True</navitem>
</eventbutton>

<eventbutton>
<imagename>pictures</imagename>
<location>1,37,238,280</location>
<navitem>True</navitem>
<font>arial,15,regular</font>
<type>category</type>
<database>pictures</database>
<display>%display%</display>
<details></details>
<defaultlisting>False</defaultlisting>
<ratio>1:1</ratio>
<columns>4</columns>
<overlay>missing</overlay>
<layout>bottom 1</layout>
<scroll>Left Right</scroll>
</eventbutton>

<eventbutton>
<eventid>goto:ppc menu</eventid>
<imagename>back.png</imagename>
<location>4,1,35,35</location>
<navitem>True</navitem>
<font>Arial,9.99999999999997,regular</font>
</eventbutton>

</skin>

This works for me.

Looks like there is a problem in that tapping the pic on the ppc blows it up to full screen on the client but not the server, even when mimic is on. You'd need a pictureviewer screen (see Jowaldo's excellent skin for an example). I seem to recall people mentioning this before - maybe a feature request.
