Black Screen Startup

Postby sub on Fri Apr 08, 2005 4:59 pm

Using a fresh install of xlobby2prerelease1.zip
.NET 1.1 installed
Windows XP fresh install

Run Xlobby and all I get is a black screen.
F2 opens the config window ok.
And when I import items to any of the music, picture or movie path it sits there doing nothing.

Please can you help me get this up and running?
What information do you need, I'll put it here - thank you so much.

[edit] I've tried running Xlobby on my other PC, and it runs up ok on that, so the download is ok. So its something on the HTPC. And I've not had any particular problems so far in running a variety of other applications on there.

you'll want to check that a skin is selected, try 'default'. then make sure that in xlobby/skins/default you have a bunch of xml files and half a dozen folders called background and buttons and resources and such

if there's nothing there or there's an extra layer of folder when winzip extracts it you'll get a black screen

Thank you Naylia for your suggestion, I can see how an undefined skin would cause this problem. I do not think that this is entirely the problem though.

I have tracked it down to this... If you "Pin To Start Menu" then the pinned shortcut doesn't work. However running the actual application from the Programs folder or if you create a shortcut anywhere else, that works too.

Should I post this as a bug report?

sub,
I think I had this problem as well. It seems like if there is nothing specified under the "Start in" shortcut properties, Xlobby doesn't load correctly. Can you verify by removing the "Start in" data off of your working desktop shortcut? (only if you want to try)

You are absolutely correct Airpost, if I remove "C:\Program Files\xlobby2" from the "Start in" field, Xlobby runs up with a black screen.
Incidently, if I "Pin to Start Menu" the Shortcut which includes a working "Start in" field, the pinned shortcut works. But if I pin the original xlobby2.exe then it doesn't, as I did originaly.

Thanks for your help :)
