Putting it all together, will xlobby suite my needs

Postby ukdavros on Fri Feb 10, 2006 10:27 am

Hi

My current set up includes

Node Zero with all Audio Video equipment.

3 X 400 DVD Jukeboxes
2 X 400 CD jukeboxes
SKY+ digital Box
SKY UK Box
Laser disk player
VCR
Computer
Yamaha Amplifier

All sound goes through the Amp which has speakers wired to the Sitting room.
All video uses either the Amp or switch boxes to feed the plasma screen in the sitting room.
Cables run for video are Component, svideo and composite.

I am also automating lights etc with Cbus.
Alarm System Comfort Ultra

I am fairly satisfied I can watch video in every room over Coax.

I am looking at getting Audio in every room and looking at my options.

the biggest problem is contol of the jukeboxes, Start stop etc is easy enough, but being able to pick a particular CD regardless of the room you are in is not so easy.

Thanks
Mark

Ever think about creating a media server? While the legality of ripping DVD's is questionable due to the DRM act, ripping CD's is certainly acceptable. 800 CD's should easily fit on a single 300GB drive, even at lossless compression like FLAC or APE. You seem like a prime candidate for a media server (just a networked computer with lots of storage). That way you don't need to worry about controlling all those jukeboxes, and the media would just be on network shares, which work very well with XLobby.

I haven't done multi-zone audio personally, but know it's possible with XLobby.

Did you see my posts regarding Xlobby control of Sony 777 changers in General discussion?

If you have different DVD changers w/o serial support, get USB-UIRT and spend countless hours working on this. I've done it with Girder and Pioneer F727.
