audio for dvd, avi, mpg

V3 help and support questions

audio for dvd, avi, mpg

Postby billberet on Thu Nov 27, 2008 7:48 pm

i have 2 soundcards and 1 onboard, when i play music, each zone works fine cause i configured the proper audio card for each zone.
but when i play a dvd, or avi, or mpg i get no sound.

i went into the media player tab, looked at the configurations, no matter what i changed, i had no audio.
i have no audio for any of my video playbacks, either dvd, or avi, or mpg.

outside of xlobby, the media players work fine, i configured the audio to use th onboard audio.
but where in xlobby can i configure this.

any advice?
:)

I assume this is for V3, if so under Alt+F2 look under media player, DVD Graph what apears in the list. If only defaul appears then windows will use what ever codec was used last for playback and in most cases playback will be un-reliable depending on the DVD playback applications that are installed on your machine. Install FFDshow and set it as the default decoder.

If you continue to have issues call me after the Thanksgiving holiday on Monday next week.

Hopefully Wes is correct, but I don't think so. Since u have 2 soundcard u need to tell the graph used by XL what soundcard u are using. Option 1 is create a graph specifically for your needs and option two is using the merit system to choose the correct codecs to use and change the def soundcard. I don't even know if option two works!
Installing ffdshow will only install another codex and that would prob set to highest merit but still u will have the issue of not knowing what soundcard it would use. I would try to create a graph if I where u so would be in 100% controll of the codec situation so it doesn't stop working after a while.

yes you are correct Lar, all i got was another codec, when i went into the dvd graph it seems it is using the default directsound device
this is not one of my soundcards.

when i changed zone 1 to use directsound device, i had no sound, just as my video's do.
just as a quick fix, to see if i get some sound, is there a way to change what sound device i want.
i need to remove the default directsound device, and change it to a valid sound card.

i would love to create my own graph, but i'm not that advanced yet.
for now, i would just edit the existing graph to use the onboard sound. this is what zone 1 is using.

I forgot we removed the FFDShow Graph from the graph folder in the latest releases.

Put this file in the graph folder in the root location of your xLobby installation.
http://xlobby.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/ffdshow.GRF

Settings for audio in windows will not effect the movie playback decoding. If you can playback music in xLobby then leave everything alone. This is why we created the media player codec selection and created the graphs so xLobby would always use the codec and decoding system we want. What DVD playback software is installed on your machine.

If you select FFdShow as your decoder it should work. Make sure you restart xLobby and also check the audio settings in FFDShow.

See this area of FFDShow settings:

Video Settings here:

Some useful Information:

If you install Cyberlink power DVD 5 or 6 then there is builtin support and graphs to work imediately.

Wes, the def graphs in XL must still contain info about soundcard right! So if the graph points to the wrong card it will not work. 50 50 chans but still.
And yes installing ffdshow will prolly work, but then leaning on the merit system is never good. You just don't have the control u want for a stabile htpc.

Bill:
1: Download graphedit http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ ... id=0&did=1
2: close xlobby
3: start graphedit
4: start playing a dvd with a player u know works and the sound to
5 in graphedit choose connect remote graph
6 save graph and put it in xl graph folder
7 edit xlobby.xml and put the name of the new graph in threre. Optionally just start xl pick graph, close xl and start again

see if it works

See my revised post above yours. I forgot we did not include the FFDShow graphs with the latest release.

I just tested the setup on my system and it works fine.

hi guys, thanks for helping me on this, i didn't copy the graph file yet Wes, i want to see if i can do it myself first.

Lar, i did the following

1: Download graphedit http://www.digital-digest.com/software/ ... id=0&did=1
2: close xlobby
3: start graphedit
4: start playing a dvd with a player u know works and the sound to
5 in graphedit choose connect remote graph

after #5 i get a blank box to choose from in graphedit.
did i miss something, i am using ZOOM MAX to play the video since that is what xlobby is using.

don't know! Vista maybe?
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/ShowPo ... 1&SiteID=1

just try and create your own. After a few! tries u prolly get it to work. Look at mine and replace the modules according to your codecs. It is not that hard once u get going. Think u can test it directly in graphedit so u don't have to Restart XL everytime

thank you so much, i will create my own graph eventually.
for now, i was stuck on the default sound device, since that is what xlobby is using mostly.

so i changed things at the hardware level within windows. i configured the default sound device
to be the onboard sound. now for the first time i got sounds when i started up xlobby.
that was new, first time i heard it, a little chime when it started up.

and guess what, i got sound when i was clicking thru the menu, so i know i got something right.
i started up the dvd, and BANG, i had sound.
sounds great!!!!!!

now that i have sound, when is the HAL theme going to be finished !!!!!!

thanks again
