What size tablet PC's do you guys use ?

Postby Chazotta on Wed May 04, 2005 2:11 pm

I am wanting to get a tablet PC, mainly as a remote for xlobby but I will also use it to control all the other PC's on the network. I have found the PPC to be too small for navigation (of xlobby)....... and so has the wife.

I was thinking of perhaps a 10.4" size, but then XGA res might be a little too small ?? Is 12.1" a good compromise or do you guys reckon a 14" is the way to go ?

My HTPC feeds my projector at 1280 x 720.

cheers, Mark.

I use a Neta980 Windows CE based 10" touchscreen. Does 800x600... more then adaquate for XLobby or any other GUI interface. Works very well, very clean clear bright colorful screen.

here's the specs:

Thanks Aaron. Can you control other PC's on the network with this ? Can you use ultra VNC or Remote Administrator ? Do you ever hook up a keyboard ?

Guys don't make it complicated.

Rule of thumb...
if you buy a tablet that runs Operating System <fill in your OS here>, it will run apps made for Operating System <fill in your OS here>

thus if you buy a tablet that runs WinXP, it will run apps made for WinXP

they are computers, nothing more.

Chazotta,
I have not hooked up a KB but I'm sure it works fine as it does with any other WinCE device.

I'm not sure why you think there would be a problem? XLobby is made to run on Windows 2000/XP/etc

only because i am thinking of using the tablet possibly to run winvnc and operate xlobby on the server in that way rather than to operate xlobby on the tablet by using xlobby client.

Well I ended up getting the Acer Travelmate C110 series which is just like a small laptop and tablet - 10". Very nice for controlling Xlobby and all of the other PC's on the network. Kind of like a large PDA.

Aaron,

I noticed you had one of the Neta 980's for sale over on the Homeseer site. Do you still have it for sale? What are you replacing it with?

Yes, it is available.

I'm selling it because I'm going a completely different route using Homeseer's voice commands and a Harmony remote to control my Home Theater.

I've not used XLobby in my setup, at all, like I thought I was going to be.

If you are interested in purchasing it let me know I have a few interested currently.
