Help each other out

Postby embee on Wed Sep 15, 2004 2:00 am

hi folks :)

mjensen2k I've had exactly the same problem as you :( black screen, no F2. I added the Colby Skin into the skins folder, edited the 'xlobby' xml doc from 'default' to 'CorbySkin' and that got rid of the black screen, now I can see that it's hanging on 'loading Databases' but i've not a clue why or what to do....any help appreciated folks, i'm tearing my hair out here

Fortunately I have little hair to begin with :D

I went back to the pre14 zip file and that package loaded just fine. I think the 'experimental' zip file is not meant to be a complete install package. As you note, there are zero skins. I think there are other items missing as well. So I'm looking to find the proper upgrade paths.

Mike

edit: for the record, I downloaded the next update ( 28 ) and simply dropped the .exe and dll's over the top of the existing ones. Of course I needed to hunt them down, as it wasn't specified anywhere. But that wasn't too hard. I have this version up and running now.

Sometimes when Xlobby gets stuck on Database it's because you have really bad MP3 tags. Either invalid or missing or other things like this.

The best thing to do in these cases is to take subset of the music you have and load them a few at a time until you find the culprit. Use an MP3 editor and fix the tags.

Xlobby should now load fine.

I've got pre28 working :D Thanks Mike

not had any luck with the latest :( sdumas I'm not sure what you mean tbh.... anyway I removed all mp3's  so I couldn't have any bad tags

it still hung on databases, I deleted the databases from the skins folder and now it hangs on 'screens'

what would I be missing out on by using pre28 over the latest?

Cheers

As followup - I have the latest working as well. I just dropped the files in their appropriate spots, after finding them of course. I left the db's alone. Granted I have very little in my dbs.

After it seemed to be working ok, I downloaded the Colby skin and it works as well. One minor bug, but not a big deal. And it is extremely clean and feature complete.

I'm running a P4 2.8GHz working fine (duh  ) But i'm thinking of switching to a fanless PC. Found some nice cases at http://www.mini-itx.com but do'n't know if those EPIA boads will be ok for the job. Anyone suggestions?

Thanx,
Peter

BTW: Using my HTPC for: MP3, DIVX, Weather, HomeSeer Home Automation and reading RSS-feeds & Email om my 1024x768 plasma.

I am running xlobby on a 1GHz mini-itx and its fine, should not be a problem for a fanless mini-itx board either, just keep the cd/dvd covers and skins to reasonable size.

For those how want to know, I have xlobby (full client) running on an pentium I with 16 mb edo and win98se, and yes it's very slooow, so i think this is more or less the minimum. I only tryed it out because i like it to run as thin client what isnt working. So if some one has an solution let me know. It says can not connect with ip ....
My server is runnig on an AMD1Ghz 512Mb and it works smooth.
