Remote Control IR Not functioning

Postby MarcusInMD on Thu Oct 05, 2006 2:08 pm

Hello,
I finally got through the inital learning curve of this software. Got my movies imported and everything looks good and now a bigger problem. I hooked up my USBIRT and confirmed it's working OK. xlobby is not reactiving to my remote control. Below is what I have done already.

1) Set the ID (text box went from green to yellow after a press of the remote)

2) Learned the command for up, down, left and right.

3) Used the generic xlobby up/down/left/right/enter from events/triggers.

Tried out the remote to move between menu options and there is no response.

I searched here and found nothing that helped. Any suggestions? Would be great because I am almost ready to deploy.

Thanks

Don't deploy just yet.
Questions to ask yourself...
Are all your ids different from the others?
Are you sure the USBUIRT recieved the whole transmission? (Make sure they all appear to be the same length, style, etc.... OFten learning codes must be done at less than a couple inches from the reciever and holding steady.)
Is the usbuirt actually blinking when recieving a signal?
Double check all of your events and make sure that you have the correct remote/code trigger pertaining to the event.
Another thing that I've read is some remotes are "toggle style" and don't work the same way.
It's hard to say.
I hope I don't sound demeaning or anything, I don't mean to be, I just want to cover all the bases.
Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I believe I have done all of that. The remote I was testing with is the All-In-OneURC-6131B00. I do plan to use our Pronto Pro once I finalize everything but for testing purposes I used this one. All of the codes went through fine. The USBIRT was blinking each time it received the codes. Everything appears to be setup from what I gathered from the few things I read here. Problem is the program is layed out messy and its sometimes hard to get a grip on which menu choices need to be used.

Another thing I just thought of was the skin you're using. Depending on the skin, the buttons may or may not be navigable using those events. I think a quick test would be to use the arrow keys on the keyboard. If you can arrow through them with that then I guess it should be able to arrow through with the remote.

I tried the default skin as well as that bluewidescreen skin (1920X1080) which I had planned to use with my Ruby projector. When I did the "test' for the triggers they moved up/down/left/right with ease just not when I tried to use the remote control.

Just tried the following and it still does not work. The LED on the USBIRT blinks when I send it the key press that was recorded but nothing happens. BUMMER!

Trigger works fine, in setup go to edit ir plugin,
chose device xlobby,
make new comand "show overlayX"
Set id, when it turns green press your remote , a number will show.
now learn ir, (press same button as in set id)
goto event manager chose a event you like to tigger (show overlayX)
in triggers chose ir
alias:(xlobby)
command: show overlayX
Press add
Now when you press your remotebutton overlayX will show (or what ever event you hav set to trigger)
Hope this make sense...

First off, make sure you are using the latest xlobby build (.exe). It might be a long shot, but there was a build a little while ago with broken UIRT ir.

Secondly, I'm assuimg you used the same device alias (xlobby) when learning and assigning the commands?

These are both false positives. If I'm not mistaken, the UIRT blinks whenever an IR signal is sent within its range, not because it is successfully interpreting it. And the navigation "tests" will work regardless of whether the triggers are properly set up.

Just to double-check, when you select an event (up, down, whatever) from Events > Navigation, click the Trigger tab, click the + sign next to the red ir button, and highlight "command" you see "(xlobby) xlobby - xlobby - xlobby" in the IR tab below and the proper command?

Yes the commands are all in there.

For Instance:

IR+ opens to

IR
down

or

IR
up

etc.

Don't want to beat a dead horse, but it should read

- ir
---command

And then in the box below, with the IR tab selected, you should see "(xlobby) xlobby - xlobby - xlobby" in the Alias field and the given command (up, down, etc.) in the Command field. Is that what you meant?

You mention the command (up, dn, rt, lt) but did not mention what type of device you are trying to learn. There are some devices (barco, certain sony models, b&o) that can not be learned by xlobby. You state that you will eventually be using a Pronto Pro. Has it already been programmed with the commands you are trying to teach xlobby? If so, you can open up Pronto Edit, select the commands, view the source and copy and paste them into xlobby. If they work with your Pronto but not when played back by Xlobby then you will need to use Girder, which is what I ended up doing because xlobby IR would not handle the commands for some of my theater hardware. You can still find the free version of Girder (3.2.9) out on the net. Just google "girder 3.2.9 download" You will usually find it on a non-english site as it is no longer distributed in the US. If you need to learn how to use Girder check out the Proximis Girder site, they still post the original documentation and the forum is very helpful.

I didn't mean to say that if the light is blinking it is working and same with navigation. I meant to say if the light ISN'T blinking, then your problem is likely between the remote and the reciever. If the keyboard navigation DOESN'T work then chances are the skins navigation controls are fruity. These are all just things to help rule out non-problems. And again, they aren't garunteed to rule things out, just help.

I have tried everything. I can confirm that everything is working perfectly and the way it should be EXCEPT for the IR.

Would someone mind giving me a step by step of what needs to be done in order for this to work using either the supplied navigation keys (under the xlobby alias) or a from scratch type setup. If I can't get this to work I will probably have to ditch the setup.

Thanks

First you set up a new device under the IR plugin tab for your remote, then set and learn all the buttons you need.
Then open up events and assign the triggers for your device for each up,down, etc navigation.
